How great to see general practice being highlighted as a key placement for many students in health and social care settings, for nursing general practice is key for long term condition management - encouraging future leaders is key for promoting primary care as career choice 🌟 #nurse #nursepractitioner #rgn #london #royalcollege #nurselead #nurseprofessional #professional #uklead #uk #healthcare #longtermconditions #leadership #teamwork #nurselife #nurseblogger #nurseoflinkedin #diabetes #generalpractice #primarycare #iamanurse #newleader #cancer #diabetes #student #studentnursing
The best bit of my job! #StudentLedClinics. Giving them support & guidance to work independently. #StudentNurses need more experience in #GeneralPractice & in Newcastle we are so proud of our practices supporting so many students!

Australia is facing a shortage of veterinary and medical general practitioners. While there are some distinct pressures, there are also some commonalities. At every stage, the privileged are advantaged - Selection (as highlighted by soon-to-be Dr Khan) - Clinical rotations (have to quit paid employment to constantly move around, incurring travel expenses while working without pay) - Training requires all med grads (& an increasing number of vet grads) to compete for training positions in their chosen specialty (the colleges, particularly in human surgical specialties, operate like private members only clubs where it’s a distinct advantage if the Chair of the Committee likes you personally or if you went to the same private school as the Old Boys on the Committee) - Even when you’ve completed training & proven your knowledge, experience and skills, it’ll be the College who ultimately decides whether to admit you as a consultant. Throughout all this, if you are facing physical or mental health challenges or managing a disability, or have caring responsibilities, you will have to manage those while navigating this gauntlet & working 24/7. These systems are (by accident or design) hostile non-relational systems based on the ‘power over’ model rather than ‘power with’. They maintain unjust power imbalances where privileges are granted to powerholding groups or individuals. Some people are invested in maintaining 'power over' at the same time as withholding power from, or disadvantaging others (Dr Melanie Joy, 'How to End Injustice Everywhere'). Soon-to-be Dr Khan is amongst those challenging these entrenched non-relational systems and shifting the power balance. Change can't come soon enough. https://lnkd.in/gAa5b8dr #equity #equityineducation #equityandinclusion #equitymatters #diversityequityinclusion #diversitymatters #diversityineducation #diversityinaction #diversityatwork #compassionateleadership #compassioninaction #compassionmatters #inclusionmatters #inclusiveeducation

Medical Doctor | Msc Student Public Health & Preventive Medicine | Research Assistant Detection & Treatment of Environmental Pollutants and Microorganisms
In the past week, I was opportuned to attend an interactive session tutored by Dr Richard Fitton , a GP at Guy's Hospital London and Dr Mohammad Al Ubaydi, as an integral part of the HLLP internship by The Academy of Public Health (The APH) ⚕️ West African Institute of Public Health on Health Literacy and Quality. Here is a summary of some important points 👇 ❓What is Health Literacy? Health literacy is the ability to understand and use health information to make informed decisions about our well-being. It's essential because it gives one a better understanding of his/her health condition. 🤔Why is it important? ⏩ Improvement in Health Outcomes: Informed individuals are more likely to follow treatment plans and engage in preventive care. ⏩ Reduction in Healthcare Costs: Preventive care and proper management of chronic conditions can decrease unnecessary hospital visits. ⏩ Promotion of Equity: Enhancing health literacy can help reduce health disparities among different populations. ⏳How can we improve it as Clinicians ? ⏩ Communication in a language the patient best understands. ⏩ Simplify Communication: Use clear, simple language in all health-related materials and avoid medical jargons. ⏩ Educational Programs: Implement community-based health education initiatives. ⏩ Use of Technology: Utilize digital tools and apps to provide accessible health information. You can as well connect and reach out for more insights 😊 #HealthAdvicates #HealthLiteracy #PublicHealth #HealthEducation #CommunityHealth #Healthcare #YPPH24 #HLLP24 #UHC #WAIPH

Social work in SPFT: Sowing seeds. Nourishing connections. Tending to what emerges. Up for social justice, collective action and relational activism. Views here my own. #social work
🌟 Embracing the Power of Learning Together 🌟 Today, I had the privilege of participating in a dynamic multi-professional preceptorship study day, uniting newly qualified registered professionals and experienced internationally educated professionals new to Sussex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust. Our focus today was Learning Disability Awareness and Supervision and this is our second cohort of social workers to join the programme. What struck me most was the synergy created by learning together. Learning together isn't just about acquiring information; it's about fostering collaboration, empathy, and growth. And I experienced this in the reflective groups and with colleague facilitators. In our discussions, perspectives were explored, experiences were shared, and contexts made clearer. It affirms my belief that when we come together to learn, we not only expand our individual horizons but also strengthen the fabric of our professional community to better serve the people we work alongside. #socialwork #LearningTogether #ProfessionalDevelopment #Collaboration #Innovation

💜Solving Challenging Behaviour & Preventing the Need for Psychotropic Restraint💜 This day is for leaders, health care professionals and care staff working in the areas of Aged Care, Hospitals and Community Services. 👉️Participants will learn: 1. To understand the root cause of conflict 2. How to identify the 4 categories of unmet needs behind challenging behaviours 3. How to meet these specific needs in a meaningful and lasting way 4. How to understand the symbolic language of people with dementia 5. A practical model for a team solution to solving specific challenging behaviour *The prerequisite is to have participated in the one day education on ‘How to Ignite the Spark of Life – A Day on Culture Enrichment’. The outcomes are the all needed shift from moving from a task orientated organisation to a person orientated organisation, and being able and empowered to shift the focus to the perspective and emotional needs of the individual they are caring for. This actively and practically addresses some of the urgent issues currently experienced in care such as the significant reliance on medical restraint. 👉️This innovative one-day seminar can be provided in a community or facility setting. Associate Director of Allied Health Professionals | Mental Health Matters | 'What Matters To You' | Everyday Leadership | Rising Star in Healthcare 2023 Award Winner
One of the best videos I have seen (and I watch a lot!) recently. Well done to the KS3 students who created this video about #DramaTherapist 🎭 In addition to admiring the creativity of the video, I also had some reflections on how children today see the world as a digital playground. They are digital natives, having grown up surrounded by technology. This shapes their view of the world as inherently connected and information-rich. We also know that many students learn best through visual aids and prefer information presented in a multimedia format. So what DO WE need to do to stimulate further interests from our next generations about healthcare careers? How do we promote the different professional groups and options? Are we making the most of the the digital playground yet? #AHPs #DramaTherapy #DigitalPlatforms #DigitalPlayground #Education #CareerChoices #HealthcareCareers #HealthAndSocialCare https://lnkd.in/eeqd3J5x

Our Education Outreach Team have another fun-packed week out and about in schools and college across Hampshire and Isle of Wight! On Monday we visited Oasis Academy in Lordshill, Southampton, where we ran an NHS careers ‘Myth Buster’ session with the year 9s. In this pivotal time for the students as they approach their GCSEs, this session busts myths about what an NHS career looks like and enlightens students to the huge array of NHS career opportunities. Thank you so much to the school and students for an absolutely brilliant time! ------- 🎉 We’re celebrating! Our team has reached the milestone of 100,000 interactions with students across Hampshire and the Isle of Wight, inspiring them about the many career opportunities in our wonderful NHS. #nhscareers #schoolvisit #nhsworksforce #careeradvice #nhsjobs
