Allyship starts with a belief in equality. But that's just the beginning. It means leaning into acceptance of lived experiences. Actively fighting against oppression. Truly understanding your own privilege and using it to stand with and for others so that we all benefit from the steps toward equality. There's always been purposeful effort by Mediavine team members to make sure we can all show up exactly as who we are and be accepted wholly. 🏳️⚧️🏳️🌈NYC Pride is now accepting Grand Marshal nominations for the 2024 NYC Pride March through December 15, 2023. The FIVE Categories are: 1. Social Justice Warrior: An activist who has spent their life advocating for a society that embraces and celebrates diversity. An individual who has fearlessly advocated for human rights while working with other people and organizations towards building a socially inclusive and progressive world. 2. Trans Rights Champion: An activist who has focused their energies on promoting equality, acceptance and safety for trans and non-binary communities. An inspirational figure who has relentlessly championed trans-causes while fighting towards drawing the community’s attention to an important issue, and directing decision-makers toward a solution. 3.Behind the scenes: An individual who has been instrumental in supporting non-profit organizations that bring awareness to and advocate for LGBTQIA+ equality. A visionary who may rarely be in the spotlight but makes a measurable difference by carefully conceiving, planning and executing strategies that bring awareness to relevant causes. 4. Youth Activist: A person 24 or younger who has been instrumental in organizing their communities to build a better and more equitable society for them and future generations. 5. Celebrated Luminary: A household name who has historically declared their support for LGBTQIA+ Rights. LGBTQIA+ Pride Month is in just a few weeks and please, for the love of god, if you have anything to do with your company's or organization's or personal brand and are going to "rainbow-up" your logo or create a bunch of Pride-centered promos and messaging? Don't even consider it without also crafting a clear, clean, public message explaining *why* aligning or promoting Pride is important to your business, brand, mission, vision, and work. It doesn't have to be complex, but it has to be real. Tell us your history, tell us your perspective, tell us about your advocacy and it's purpose. Don't just slap a rainbow behind your logo for a month. We can tell. And we're over it. This isn't like getting dressed up for Halloween. This is a month dedicated to honor the LGBTQIA+ community and culture, commemorating the struggles we have endured over time, and celebrating our collective and individual contributions, talents, diversity and existence makes our everyday lives so important, bright, and unique. Be part of the conversations, not just part of the window-dressing. There is still time to plan and deliver on purpose next month.

Judging the AAF’s Mosaic Awards for Toledo has been an incredible journey into the heart of creativity, advocacy and commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.           The raw talent displayed by the candidates was nothing short of amazing — a true celebration of the rich tapestry that makes our communities unique and vibrant. From groundbreaking creative works to transformative advocacy, these individuals and companies are shaping a future that is inclusive for all. The Mosaic Awards recognize the dedication of those who go above and beyond, amplifying underrepresented communities with depth and authenticity. Their initiatives transcend mere recognition; they create a cultural impact that resonates and sustains over time. It’s not just about representation; it’s about fostering a genuine understanding of BIPOC, LGBTQIA+ and Disability communities. Every winning entry showcases a unique vision, a lens through which we gain a broader perspective and a deeper understanding of the narratives that need to be heard. This month, in Connect, Moving Ahead faculty member and DE&I expert, Holiday Phillips guides us through how to become an ally and educate ourselves about LGBTQIA+ issues. Here is what she recommends: 1. Fill in the blanks of your history, as in formal education, sometimes the lives and experiences of marginalised individuals are left out. 2. Open up conversations. Often, the fear of being intrusive stops us from learning about issues we don't know enough about. 3. Read books and watch films about LGBTQIA+ lives as they are an excellent window into people's lived experiences. 4. Consume media from LGBTQIA+ creators on other topics as this will allow you to see them as whole people with varied lives and develop empathy. 5. Go to a pride event and take the opportunity to immerse yourself in the community and celebration and while you are there, to share yourself.
