A few months ago I got the best tip for using AI tools. It's just a mindset, but I find that it makes much easier to understand when and how to use them. This is the tip: Consider AI tools as sophisticated interns. Like an intern, AI can help you in many tasks as long as you explain them properly. For instance, I needed to illustrate a post about the coming Euro and one of the images I got from Dall-E was the one below. I wasn’t explaining properly (though I loved the outcome). Many people are currently sharing more and more ways in which they can automate processes in their companies. Oddly enough, many of these automatizations are about interacting with customers. AI generated people answering questions, AI generated voices at the phone, AI generated texts sent as newsletters… Perhaps I am thinking like an old person, or a very conservative one, but I strongly believe that most of the value a company has is the way they interact with their clients. Giving this value to an intern, as sophisticated as it might be, is a reckless decision. We don’t usually do that with real interns as we understand that they need to learn the company values, the language, the skills to navigate the complexity of customers’ relationships. But we are willing to let an artificial intelligence interact with the people that make our business possible. I just don’t see it. Don’t get me wrong, I’m all about using ChatGPT. I have not used it for this post, though I could have. On a daily basis, it helps me make more professional texts, organize bullet points, create graphic content… BUT. I never take it as more (or less) than a sophisticated intern. As a matter of fact I like my two real interns better. So no, I will not outsource the direct interaction I have with my clients to Skynet. Some of them might like me and some might not. That’s just life. But I’m sure all of them would rather treat with someone they love or hate than a pre-configured machine. #customercare #cmr #ai #marketingforpeople
