Today, as we observe September 11th, we pause to reflect on a day that forever changed the course of history. It’s a day to honor those who lost their lives and to pay tribute to the countless acts of heroism and solidarity that emerged in the aftermath. Shooters in houses of worship. Gangs attacking mass transit commuters in New York. Deadly road and club/bar rage. Youngsters killing youngsters. Antisemitic, racial attacks on campuses and public spaces. Media that feeds on and entertains with violent news clips and programming. Political circles that further divide for advantage. We have long since abandoned our dedication to civil society and become a house divided. We are strangers to one another and to ourselves. The center no longer can hold. And enemies are at the door. So where do we go from here? First, we need to take a long look at ourselves. Do we in what we say and do contribute even in a small way to the discord/negativity around us? Do we look for/bring out the best or the worst in others? How does that reflect our attitude toward ourselves? Do we do exactly what our employer/client wants even if that may not be for the best of our community? Do we spend most of our time working and what’s left with family/friends? Do we ever spend time in prayer? Perhaps it’s a good time to reflect on the Civil War – in which more people died in our country than in all the wars combined – and meditate on what President Lincoln said at Gettysburg. https://lnkd.in/esTB3uBf

In a previous post, I included a video discussing the Christo-Fascism which is an ideology embraced by the alt-right wing of the Republican Party comprising the MAGA movement that our former President introduced when he first announced his run for President in June of 2015. And in a more recent post, I shared a video where AOC alludes to the growth of that fascist movement while simultaneously distancing herself from the fascism that also exists within the Democratic Party based on the elimination of a Democratic Primary Election where candidates should be given the right to challenge the current leadership. In addition, it is the income and wealth inequality, a key characteristic of fascism that has led to even wider disparities and inequities among racialized and minoritized communities. I want to share this video today on this historic UN-designated International Holocaust Remembrance Day as a call to reject and end fascism in all of its forms. In deepening our commitment to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, we do so by upholding our own values and ensuring that those we elect into office are held to even higher standards so that they too reflect our values and MLK’s legacy of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion.
