Why game-based training? Because 🎮 Engaging 🎮 training makes for 📈 Impact 📈. A great example here from Star Pubs - "Engagement with the content from team members is 86% compared to 60% engagement previously. Operators also reported an 87% knowledge gap closure and an uplift in staff customer service performance." Tracy Bickerdike, Head of Training 🗨 "I believe that gamification is the way forward for hospitality training as a number of other companies have approached us to hear about our own experiences with the technology.” 🗨"As it is fun and bite-sized participants engage with the training more often and achieve the required competencies earlier. We’re even seeing staff seeking out more and new training unprompted." 🗨“Introducing the technology first to our managed operator pubs has been invaluable as it has allowed us to see what would work best for our leased and tenanted estate." The rise of the fast casual, made-to-order learning experience... I'm presenting on the Top 5 Most In-Demand Skills tomorrow for Association for Talent Development (ATD) tomorrow and wanted to share my POV on the Future of Learning and how #HRprofs & #LearningProfs should be thinking about employee learning experience in 2030... I see the future of learning looking and feeling much like the evolution we witnessed in the restaurant industry during the pandemic. Just as restaurants adapted to meet individual preferences and needs, learning will shift towards a made-to-order model. Imagine a world where everyone has a custom educational experience tailored to their unique requirements. This is the expectation for the future – Learning. Made to Order. Look at the biggest success stories of the foodservice industry post-COVID, where we saw innovators like Instacart and Grubhub thriving. These companies capitalized on the demand for convenience and customization, much like the future of learning will. The restaurants who hoped to keep their business model the same and "weather the storm" by not creating online ordering & curbside delivery largely failed. In the corporate landscape of 2030, learning will resemble the fast casual dining experience. Accessible, integrated into the flow of work, and personally relevant – learning will be like grabbing an item at the grocery store checkout, opportunistic not mandatory. We grab the candy bar because we're impulsive & expect immediate gratification. You can't grab the candy bar if it's never put near the register. Learning will be viewed the same way. But it's not just about convenience; it's about optimization. Gen Z, in particular, seeks the perfect balance between convenience and effectiveness. They prioritize optimization over mere convenience, much like the shift we see in the restaurant industry towards healthier options. We also know with the integration of AI, learning will become even more streamlined, allowing individuals to upskill without sacrificing productivity. Time will be valued more than ever, and learning will be designed to fit seamlessly into people's lives, just like modern convenience services. Americans are outsourcing daily chores like laundry, yardwork and walking their dog in the interest of getting back time in their day - how can we view learning through this lens? I think the future of learning lies in its ability to be both accessible and optimized. By adopting a "fast casual" approach, we can ensure that education remains relevant, effective, and tailored to individual needs.🚀 #FutureofLearning #PersonalizedEducation #FastCasualLearning

Imagine entering a lavish restaurant where every employee knows exactly how to satisfy your every need and anticipates your desires. The use of efficient training techniques produces this flawless experience. I genuinely believe that the food and beverage industry is fundamentally a human-driven business rather than one dominated by machines. To continually improve, humans need ongoing training and development. One important tactic is role-playing, which lets employees practise managing different situations by simulating actual occurrences. This secure setting promotes learning from errors and guarantees readiness for actual visitor concerns. Both shadowing and mentoring have equal significance. As they see excellent practices and ask questions in real-time, newly hired professionals coupled with experienced experts receive practical experience and accelerate their learning curve. Loops for feedback promote ongoing development. Establishing a culture of excellence involves regular check-ins and performance reviews, which offer constructive feedback by highlighting strengths and suggesting areas for progress. Lastly, it's critical to make training engaging and participatory. Games, quizzes, and group activities ensure that knowledge is retained and applied practically in everyday work while also maintaining a high level of enthusiasm. Using these training methods not only improves employee abilities but also guarantees that visitors will have a memorable time. A team that prioritises efficient training is capable, devoted, and self-assured. To a training session well done! It is essential to pursue ongoing education. The staff stays abreast of emerging trends and technology through frequent workshops and online courses, which enables them to quickly adjust to changes in the market. . . . . . #foodandbeverageindustry #industryinsight #training #trainingessentials

Advancing Hospitality: Combining Restaurant Tech with Practical Experience | Inventory Management/COG Expert | Culinary Analytics
Think training ends after onboarding? Think again. When it comes to restaurant tech It's just the beginning. In the restaurant business, the onboarding process is often seen as a one-and-done deal. It is a race to get people through their training period as quickly as possible. but that attitude leads to disaster How many times have you been given a brief walkthrough of the system by another manager and then let loose. We end up with the blind leading the blind All of the new tech and systems are great, but they can't be learned in a week. an improperly trained manager can do irreparable harm to your systems with the stroke of a key If you are going to commit to restaurant technology, then you need to commit to proper training of new hires, even if it is the first week of December If you are ready to improve your BOH operations. Helping senior hospitality leaders make more money on wine, spirits, beer & Sake & build a team of engaged, passionate staff who sell with pride & stay for longer | Northern Wine School Training | Online & In-Person |
To be brutally honest, if you view training as a cost, rather than an investment, then you're setting you and your team up for failure. Lack of training and opportunities for further development are one of the primary reasons for a disfunctional workplace and very high staff turnover. How do I know this? Before becoming self employed, I worked for several organisations. Many had this attitude, and they weren't happy places to work, and ultimately customer experience suffered. The good news is, Northern Wine School's wine, spirits and Sake courses provide an immediate return in the form of more confident soft selling and better guest interactions through a more drinks savvy team. Wine & Spirit Education Trust , Wine Scholar Guild and Sake Sommelier Association courses are all accredited and recognised globally, giving you and your staff a point of difference in specialist knowledge and excellence. Get in touch with me via direct message, or hello@northernwineschool.co.uk to discuss how I could help you boost your bottom line and team morale, all while fitting training in around your business needs and learning and development programmes. It doesn't have to cost a lot, we can accommodate individual learners on scheduled classroom courses or online study for more remote locations or bespoke options for larger teams utilising your existing beverage lists.
