How to Repair Cut Joists: Structural fixes can be a challenge but we've got you covered! If you run into a situation where you have to do some structural fixes, especially if you have a joist that's cut You have a couple of different options The more traditional option is to sister the joist using the exact same size of material that's here In this case, it's a 2x8 So you would have a 2x8 with PL premium and nails or screws We don't have that luxury here because we don't have enough length for the joist that's going to be sistered here to sit on a wall or on a beam So we went with a steel, 1.5 inch steel, 1.5 inch through bolt This is going to hold the floor together and there won't be any movement because the steel is not going to shrink And this 100 year piece of wood is not going to shrink also because this, I think, was the best method for this situation that we have here🔨 Structural fixes can be daunting, but don't worry - we've got the solution for repairing cut joists! If you find yourself in a situation where you need to make structural repairs, especially with a cut joist, we have a couple of options for you. One traditional method is sistering the joist with the same size material, but if space is limited, a steel through bolt may be the best solution. This strong and secure method will hold the floor together without any movement. Trust us to handle your structural repairs with expertise and precision. #StructuralRepairs #JoistRepair #ConstructionTips 🔧 #structuralfixes #joistrepair #sisteringjoists #plpremium #nailsandscrews #2x8material

Dovetails are effortless with my Leigh D4R jig - I can cut the pins and tails together, although I prefer to do them individually when doing multiple drawers for different jobs. A contrast to my early days having to mark them out and hand cut each one; I used to clamp 8 sides together and cut all 8 at once, beautiful brass backed tenon saw cut them precisely and accurately, never used blocks to align the chisel at 90 degrees (every night, every chisel and plane was sharpened and honed ready for the following morning), they were always perfect. This traditional way still comes in handy. My Leigh dovetail jig has done several thousand drawers so far: I make drawers for bespoke furniture, hotels, university accommodation, yachts, shipping, MOD, and other corporate and industrial projects. The router I use is a Festool OF1010 EBQ, bought in 2011 and just today popped its brushes (trade tip-to keep going you can pull out the tiny stop pin in the centre of the brush, the router will then work again but you must replace the brushes asap to stop the possibility of armature damage if you forget). The video shows pins being cut for the large ash chest of drawers, these are for lapped or half blind dovetails, the ash looks slightly rough, this is done to help clamping and is sanded prior to assembly. Dovetails are so strong they hold without glue, I do use glue in assembly, never need clamping, so fast to assemble. #leighdovetailjig #Festool #dovetaildrawers #dovetails #Drawers #traditionalskills #neilbespoke #madeinyork #handcutdovetails #biid #riba #york Video Options Add photos and videos from your mobile device.
