From a reputation perspective the lessons from Gareth Southgate’s career as manager of the England men’s football team are astounding. The overriding takeaway in that regard is how it is almost impossible these days to change people’s minds. Losing the Euro 2024 final against Spain only entrenched both sides - Those who thought he had done a good job in his 8 years and those who felt he had underperformed with the resources at his disposal. Ultimately if you are a leader don’t waste your energy trying to win over those who are against you, it is futile. Just focus on the job and what needs to be done.
