Recently, I had a valuable discussion with a leader in our industry who asked me about the process of starting a project. While I initially responded with a high-level overview, it prompted me to reflect on the complexity of project initiation. Starting a project involves navigating through numerous moving parts, uncertainties, follow-ups, and the need to keep track of everything meticulously. As a project manager, it's our responsibility to effectively kick off the project amidst these complexities. Drawing from my experiences, I endeavored to encapsulate the essence of project initiation through a flowchart. Notably, this flowchart doesn't adhere to PMP or PMBOK principles, as I'm currently undergoing PMP training. Instead, it reflects my practical insights and observations. It's worth noting that the flowchart doesn't encompass all phases of the project, such as Architecture or UX, as those are typically integrated into the Sprint itself. Instead, it aims to illustrate the typical steps involved in initiating a project once it's signed off or approved. This particular flowchart focuses on the deal type 'Fixed Price & Fixed Time' using an Agile methodology. I intend to create additional flowcharts for different deal types and methodologies in the near future. Your inputs and comments on this flowchart are highly appreciated, as they can contribute to refining our project management practices.
