Last week was Stripe #Sessions - Stripe’s annual user conference. Here are my top takeaways: 📈 Over the past year, Stripe processed more than 1 Trillion dollars (to put this into perspective, that’s 1% of global GDP❗). This huge dataset allows Stripe to learn and build optimizations that wouldn’t make sense for any one business to build. In fact, businesses using Stripe’s optimized payments surfaces experienced a boost in revenue of almost 12% thanks to more than 100 of these optimizations. 🌍 Stripe has more than doubled the amount of local payment methods and has launched more than 50 product updates. It's your 2nd week at Stripe. You're just happy to be there. Your boss gives you an opportunity to post-produce a user video. 'For what?' you ask. 'Sessions'. #StripeSessions, the internet economy conference and the biggest public-facing event led by Stripe all year. You put your head down and get to to work. 3 weeks and lots of hard work later, you see the first project you worked on at the final stage. It's being played live in front of hundreds of conference attendees. You're pinching yourself. This is what you've wanted for years. You think back to when you've been told 'with a little more work' or 'maybe next time' you could achieve something like this. But stop for a second. You DID achieve this. And you work toward the next big video project, knowing the result will be equally gratifying because your work is acknowledged. And you're just getting started. Life is good.

Speed matters! And truly, speed is all about getting your customer's feedback, processing it, and implementing the learning. We built a v0.1 of our product and pitched it to 50 founders. Got responses and feedback / suggestions for a whopping 96 unique features (some marginally similar). And that's the reality. Everyone you talk to will give you their insights. Its your job to process it. How we do it will be a post for later ;) Then we decided we wanted to integrate CRMs with our existing infrastructure. 37 hours and we integrated it end-to-end. And today, we did our final piece of v1 integration - Stripe. Now our revenue stack is ready. At Stripe Sessions today, we announced a ton of cool new product features! A couple that I’m excited to share in light of many recent user discussions: ✅ We’ve more than doubled the number of payment methods we support, from 50 to over 100—now including Amazon Pay, Revolut Pay, Zip, Twint, and Swish. In fact: we added more payment methods in the last 12 months than in the previous twelve years combined. ✅ A/B tests in the Stripe Dashboard, for free, with no code. There’s something magical about building a new product that customers actually pay for. I’ve been an early employee at a pre-launch stage for 2 companies (and pre $1m rev at 4) and have had the pleasure of navigating bringing a product to market… …but never as a founder. Until launching Deal Sheet 6 weeks ago. Bringing a product to market (as a founder), and the one who co-created the product, it just hits WAY DIFFERENT than previously for me as an employee. The dopamine I get from a Stripe notification that someone has purchased our product is amazing. I don't really know exactly how to explain. Clearly for us, and many others there’s years of figuring out a model before there is even a product. Then the idea lands but you still need to figure out how to make every part work for each party involved. Most idea’s fail. I’ve tried a bunch that have failed. It sucks. You take the L and move on to try and build something better. No real point to this post, just sharing what’s on my mind right now. And cheers to the dopamine hit when you get a paid customer notification 🙂
