The director of the Defense Department's Cyber Crime Center (DC3), Jude Sunderbruch, predicts a rising low-grade "AI versus AI" conflict, wherein artificial intelligence systems will be deployed by adversaries for cyberattacks against the U.S. Speaking at DefenseScoop's Google Defense Forum, Sunderbruch emphasizes that the U.S. and its allies need to creatively leverage existing AI systems to gain an edge against intelligence giants like China. AI and machine learning are considered pivotal in the future of cybersecurity, enhancing capabilities for hackers and enabling new methods for social engineering attacks. In the short term, AI systems can be utilized for threat analysis, vulnerability assessment, and system testing. The Defense Department's updated cybersecurity strategy emphasizes the application of automated and AI-driven capabilities, taking a more offensive stance against adversaries like China and Russia. The strategy, influenced by geopolitical events such as Russia's invasion of Ukraine, aims to strengthen U.S. cyber readiness. DC3, as a federal cybersecurity analysis center, plays a crucial role in advanced forensics and collaboration with the intelligence community to address cyber threats. #AI #Cybersecurity #Defense #ArtificialIntelligence #infrastructuresecurity https://lnkd.in/e9uwhHpH

It’s time Congress gets serious about cybersecurity and takes a transformative step in safeguarding America’s future against the very real and growing threats posed by our adversaries—China, Russia, and Iran. These nations are not only advancing their cyber capabilities but are also strengthening their alliances to undermine U.S. national security. They are targeting our power grids, financial systems, and yes, our elections—making the stakes higher than ever. We are in a technological arms race where quantum computing threatens to crack the encryption that protects our most sensitive data, and AI is being weaponized to spread disinformation at an unprecedented scale. This isn’t science fiction—it’s happening now, and we need leaders in Congress who understand the magnitude of these threats. I wasn’t aiming to be the first, but the reality is that when elected, I will be the most credentialed cyber lawmaker in history. With that comes the grave responsibility to serve with purpose—free from ego and the rot of partisan politics—to deliver real solutions that protect our national security and ensure America leads in this new era of technological warfare. Thank you to my cyber family for your wisdom, support, and for being a cornerstone in my journey. I’ll be eternally grateful and look forward to seeking your guidance as we tackle these generational challenges together.
I'm thrilled to see a trusted cyber expert running for Congress. Madison Horns deep understanding and ability to tackle complex cybersecurity issues are skills that Congress urgently needs. https://lnkd.in/eWsVVv_N

The NSA's pioneering Artificial Intelligence Security Center, in collaboration with industry partners, is gearing up to continue the development of AI within the security community in 2024. The growing development of the AI field doesn’t come without second hand consequences however. "When an enterprise runs AI systems, it opens up to new attack surfaces…We need to secure and protect these systems from threats and buy down risks today” says NSA Director General Nakasone. I’m interested to see how the AI Security Center might shape the future of both securing and using AI for good. Read more about the cybersecurity year in review below. #CybersecurityInsights

Former U.S. Cyber Command and National Security Agency Chief Paul Nakasone said on June 6 that the “secret sauce” to detecting artificial intelligence (AI) being used by foreign adversaries lies in public-private partnerships. “One of the ways that we can detect AI is through the fact that we’re doing foreign surveillance operations outside the United States against a series of actors and seeing what they’re planning on doing. So that’s bringing intelligence to cybersecurity. It’s also being able to take a look at what’s the commercial sector being able to do there and are they seeing things that are anomalous that we don’t see at all – that’s the power of the private sector. Being able to put those two together I mean, that’s the secret sauce.”

Executive in the Government of Canada | Transforming the public service to serve us better #Leadership #Technology #NationalSecurity
AI is a transformative force for national security, both as a tool for maintaining a qualitative edge in intelligence capabilities, and as a growing threat when used by adversaries. “[In] the age of technology and artificial intelligence, it has become easier to obtain information about enemies and even allies…” Great (short) NPR interview with FBI Director Chris Wray and General Paul Nakasone, director of the National Security Agency and commander of US Cyber Command, on the promise and perils of AI for national security. Of note, Wray reveals why AI could enable lesser threat actors to become more sophisticated, which could shift in the landscape of cyber threats; while Nakasone emphasizes that protecting AI technology is of strategic importance in maintaining a competitive edge in intelligence and cybersecurity.
