Auburn University - Stormwater Research Facility’s Post

Perry Oakes' Construction Stormwater Tip No. 59: Research at the Auburn Stormwater Research Facility has found that a lot of the under-mining type failures of a silt fence are initiated around the post. The new recommended off-set installation eliminates this issue when installed properly. By offsetting the post 6 in. downstream of the trench allows for the post to be inserted into undisturbed ground. It also allows for better compaction of soil on the silt fence geotextile when filling the trench.

So place the stakes on the lower side of the trench that's been dug to backfill the silt fence?

I’m having a hard time picturing what you’re describing. Do you have a drawing you can share?
