Perry's E&SC Tip No. 68 Give a little thought to your stockpile locations. Try to keep piles as far as possible from a concentrated flow area. If the soil is not to be used for a while, keep it covered with mulch, vegetation, or plastic. This pile here has a direct conduit to the stormwater curb inlet.

Mulching is advisable and most effective when sites use it with seeding or vegetation. In addition to stabilizing soils, mulching can reduce stormwater, velocity, and improve infiltration. Mulching is an erosion control practice that uses materials such as grass, hay, wood chips, wood fibers, straw or gravel to stabilize exposed or recently planted soil surfaces. Bioretention ponds are constructed with multiple layers to facilitate stormwater filtration. Above the gravel layer (https://lnkd.in/ebfSCAJR), a finer sand layer is added to enhance filtration and water treatment. A specially engineered soil mixture is then added on top of the sand layer. This soil mix is designed to have a high infiltration rate and adequate nutrient-retention capacity. Above this layer is a layer of mulch. https://lnkd.in/gTRP4zyg #civilconstruction #civilcontractors #stormwatermanagement
