The number one question I am asked when talking about Girl Scouts is, "what does girl scouts do?"
The absolute worst thing I can do is limit that answer to "crafts & cookies."
I know that in my head, I am working on the answer 1,000,000,000 different ways. And dumbfoundedly I answer, "well we learn what it means to be a Girl Scout and they do fun activities. They do a crafts and sell cookies!
Often I'm tired, not on my game and I give that cliche answer, and just cringe. I literally can not stop my mouth. I back track and then ask:
What does she wanna do? Go to Mars? Save the rainforest? Change the lives in her state and country? Build robots that fly, crawl, walk, run, or go underwater? Sell cookies? Make friends? Create unrelated family members? Open the door of opportunity for her and the girls of her troop? Be a better person than us, the "current" adults? Have her own TedTalk?
It's a choose your own adventure in the realist sense of life. It's note softball, where they play the position coach says. They aren't judged by their attendance. The kids plug and play where they want and where they shine!
For the adults, this is one of the only organizations you can play, experience, participate in WITH your kid rather than on the sideline.
Want to join Girl Scouts? Want to Volunteer or have a Girl in mind? Please reach out. I would love to help!
