Private Equity in 2024: A New Talent Strategy Emerges As seen in Hunt Scanlon Media's recently released 2024 Private Equity Recruiting Report, It is now widely agreed that #talent is crucial in driving value in private equity. “As deal volume continued to decline and questions about the future persisted, the pace of decision making around executive hires slowed,” explained Alison Hammer Woodhead, senior partner at Kingsley Gate. “Mission critical executive searches were still launching, but with an eye toward caution. #Hiring managers were simply taking longer to decide how and when they wanted to move forward with key hires. Despite fewer and slower search starts, the market for the strongest PE C-suite #talent remained highly competitive, as so many executives made moves during peak deal years post-pandemic. PE firms have been shifting how they build their Operating Partner teams. 1980s-2015: hire multi-time CEOs to sit on boards and advise CEOs 2015-present: hire a resource group of functional specialists that can be deployed across the portfolio. These resource groups typically include Operating Partners focused on Talent, Sales, Marketing, Product/Technology, and Operations. The resource group is now a strategic weapon on diligence, laying foundation in first 100 days, and sharing best practices between port cos.
