Managing Expectations When You Hire Or Are Hired At Senior Level Today's workplace is much more diverse than ever in many ways. One way is the form of engagement for senior staff and consulting positions. As a consultant your role generally has limits; the owner or management team hiring should not expect the advisor, who is usually on a contract, to exercise authority. The role is advisory only and it is up to the leadership team to enforce the policies and recommendations. An interim C-Suite officer is much more a sustainer and stabilizer to hold down the fort while the firm makes a decision about a long term move or hire. I call this a hybrid fractional or a 2/3 fractional C-Suite chair holder. Some firms want the position filled on the organizational chart however, do not want to pay for full time or sometimes long term support in the role. This is very common for marketing people or the CMO or CRO. Then there is a true fractional officer. This is common for CEO and CFO and even for the COO. in recent times. This is where the firm wants the visibility of a C-Suite as well as the expertise yet is either unable or not quite ready to have the full top bureaucracy of a C-Suite. In this case, everyone should clearly understand (and this should be written out in a services or employment contract) the full scope. A true fractional CX should function in full force. Fractional only points to the time involved - generally a day or two a week. Lastly, and clearly, a full time CX needs to be fully accomplishing the job and should have responsibility and privilege afforded the position within the culture of the firm. The pay status column are suggestions for the type of work category and may vary based on geography and mission. #csuite #business #leaders #expectations

Reduced nationwide demand has enabled many healthcare systems to lower their reliance on travelers and contingent labor, making it an opportune moment to centralize historically decentralized contingent labor populations, encompassing non-clinical, IT, locum tenens, and even paid student and intern roles. Simplifying Complexity: Operational Excellence for Fast Growing Businesses - Operations Leader | Director of Operations/COO
Is it time to hire a COO? Are you a start-up, scale-up or small business? Is your leadership team juggling too many priorities? Are they dealing with things outside their specialist areas? Is the CEO spending too much time working in the business rather than on it? If any of these apply to your business, it might be time to hire a COO. - What is a COO? This might seem like an odd question, but the role can vary depending on the industry and the business itself. Essentially, the role of a COO is to focus on the day-to-day operations of the business and operational improvements, while the CEO's focus is usually external. A COO can be described as a "specialist generalist." Unlike other members of the C-suite who have specific focus areas; technology, marketing, HR, legal, etc. They are also responsible for putting some governance in place and establishing suitable metrics for teams. - Can we afford a COO? Adding another person to the C-suite doesn’t have to be expensive. The COO doesn’t have to be full-time. If the issues prompting the need for a COO are short-term or have come up recently, it may be best to bring in a COO on a flexible basis, such as a fractional or interim, or maybe on a consultancy basis. With any of those options, you can get the benefit of an experienced executive without the 6-figure cost. What parts of your business would be more efficient and scalable with a little bit of operational improvement? What else could the C-suite be doing? #COO #CEO #investor #operationalexcellence I help companies grow and manage change efficiently by improving their business operations. Full-time, part-time, fractional or consultant. With 20+ years of experience in technology and operations, I’ve seen many costly mistakes. Can your business afford them?
