This personal reflection emerged after whatching Gucci's FW 2024-2025 fashion show at Milan Fashion Week, which had a milder audience reaction than the criticized one in September. The question arises: are our critiques grounded in knowledge, or are we grappling with the discomfort of change? In my opinion, Sabato De Sarno's inaugural runway show, for Gucci exemplified the difficulty in embracing change, sparking mixed reactions due to its departure from predecessor Alessandro Michele's established aesthetic. Gucci, synonymous with luxury and style, underwent a seismic shift under Michele's eclectic, maximalist designs. Enter De Sarno, tasked with steering Gucci into a new era, unveiling a distinct departure from Michele's whimsy toward a more streamlined and contemporary aesthetic. Resistance to change often stems from a reluctance to let go of the familiar.
