The below topic has been on my mind recently as there is no clear guidelines (unless Ive missed it). 👂🏻👂🏼 if you are facing a patient with hearing loss in one ear and profound hearing loss in the other? I'd love to hear your thoughts on the course of practice you take. 🤔 Which option would you choose and why? 1️⃣ Fit them with a BiCROS/CROS hearing aid. 2️⃣ Get your patient to explore Cochlear Implant option, and if they decide not to proceed after speaking to a surgeon and Cochlear specialised Audiologist, then fit CROS. 3️⃣ Fit only a hearing aid and explain that there is no solution for the other ear. Of course discuss communication strategies. #Audiology #HearingLoss #PatientCare

Fantastic conference. For those that missed the session, here are my four key take away messages from the APD mini symposium this past weekend. 1. Clients with normal hearing and auditory complaints need to undergo further advanced audiological testing. 2. Let's not forget evoked potentials. Diagnostic imaging reveals structural context while evoked potentials help us understand auditory function. 3. Clients who experience stroke and concussion are often not asked about hearing related issues. Audiologists should become more engaged in audiological care for these populations. 4. Fitting hearing aids on clients with auditory processing shows promise but still requires more scientific rigor to truly understand the best path forward. Audiology.. what a great profession!
