We were way ahead of our time in 2002 😊 Here you see one of #Xsens's founders, Per Slycke, wearing an old-school VR headset connected to one of our first products, the MT9. This was in 2002, not many people were into VR back then. There were headsets available, but this was way before Google Glasses or the first Oculus Rift. I tried searching for this VR headset, but I can't find out what brand or make this is, none of the headsets I came across resemble this one. Feel free to jump in if you do? 𝗪𝗵𝘆 𝘄𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝘄𝗲 𝗮𝗵𝗲𝗮𝗱 𝗼𝗳 𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗲? This is probably one of the first attempts at adding miniature head tracking to VR, without external input like cameras or other bulky solutions. Something that is now quite common of course. And it's working! The head movement is tracked perfectly on the screen. Who knows, maybe Palmer Luckey got wind of it 😊 Also, look at those graphics! What enormous progress did we make on real-time rendering, if you look at where we came from, wow! And check that bulky headset, you cannot wear this for hours, I'm getting headaches and neck pain just looking at it. I wanted to share this, for no particular reason. I came across this video while looking through the archives. VR can work in two modes - Standalone and PCVR. Why two modes? Let’s find out. VR Headsets come with a constraint today. There is only so much compute you can put inside a small headset which limits the capabilities of the VR Headset. Now if you were to use a standalone headset which is not connected to any other device, you can only run certain applications which support standalone. Higher compute requirements are hard to execute on a standalone device, exceptions are possible with cloud compute increasing the cost of use. There are various companies that provide VR Headsets in the market. Some of these companies include Meta, AjnaLens, PICO XR and HTC VIVE. These range between $300 - $1500. Let us say you want higher compute in your headset to run certain applications. The best possible way to execute this is using Tethered Headsets or PCVR that runs the application on the computer and streams it on the headset. There are no limitations on the compute with PCVR as you can run it on high end PCs. We have experienced that to run highly graphical simulations which include environments with many elements and interactions, PCVR works best. Some examples include Aircraft Simulators and Bridge Simulators for Ships. It is recommended to use PCVR for complex simulations as it enhances the experience by tenfold. 🚀 VR News Update: Pico 4 - Discontinued? Let's Dive into the Details!🚀 Hello, friends! Today, I want to share some news and clarifications regarding the situation with the Pico 4 and Quest 3 VR headsets. Get comfortable, let's get started! Let's begin with the fact that there was recent buzz about the discontinuation of the Pico 4, which caused quite a stir among VR fans. Major suppliers suddenly found that the headset was no longer available, further fueling rumors. The situation became more complicated when it became apparent that Quest 3 became harder to find, with prices for it jumping. Many attribute these events to the launch of the Apple Vision Pro, which sparked a tremendous interest in virtual reality. However, these are just speculations. Fortunately, a Pico representative shed light on the rumors about the Pico 4 discontinuation. It turns out that the Pico 4 and Pico 4 Enterprise will be produced until September, after which the company plans to start manufacturing a new model. Interestingly, back in December, there was mention of the Pico 4S model, the trademark for which was registered this month. It's important to remember that there hasn't been an official press release yet, and the situation could change. So, Pico owners and fans shouldn't worry or rush to sell their headsets. It's safe to say that the current version of the headset will continue to be supported and expanded with new games, just as it was with the Pico Neo 3. Stay with us to not miss further updates!
