Great reminder from Dr. Wako that building a resilient #healthcare system isn't always about making big changes; it's mostly about the small things we do to enhance the experience for our team members and patients. And this is good news-- it means that the necessary changes are obtainable for most organizations. #FutureOfHealthcare #HealthcareLeadership #PatientExperience

It’s OK for healthcare providers to say "I don’t know." "If you don’t have the answer… you can offer some hope, or at least try and get somebody to the right direction." Healthcare is a science, yes, but also an art that involves some trial and error at times. The human body is a complex thing and not everyone responds to treatment in an identical way. In healthcare, sometimes the answer is "I don't know." (unfortunately). This can be frustrating for patient and physician alike. Joshua J. Judy, MSF and Todd R. Otten, M.D. explain how the power of the relationship between patient and physician can provide direction, clarity, and hope- especially when answers don't seem to come easy. #rippleofchange #patientcare #qualitycare #providerwellness #patientcenteredcare

"I would echo what Joshua J. Judy, MSF said in terms of listening. Frankly put your keyboard down, look the person in the eye, shut up, and listen. Don’t have preconceived notions about what the diagnosis is because you might be wrong if you’ve already made it in 15 to 20 seconds. There might be some nugget of detail in there that is invaluable. I learned quickly on in my career that if you asked a couple questions and just sat there and listened to the person in front of you, they would usually tell you what the diagnosis was." -Todd R. There is a better path forward for American #healthcare – one that is people-centered and transformational; however, to get there we must "unite the power of one" at the intersection of people, policy, and politics. By listening to people’s needs, jointly developing policy solutions, and partnering with others, we can ensure our health care system works for everyone. This week on the Race to Value, I interviewed Natalie Davis and Venice Haynes, PhD, MSPH of the United States of Care, a nonprofit organization focused on an ambitious goal to achieve universal access to quality and affordable healthcare for all Americans. By fostering dialogue and collaboration, conducting research, and advocating for policies that enhance access, lower costs, and improve healthcare outcomes, #UnitedStatesofCare finds common ground and works across party lines and ideological divides to address the healthcare challenges facing the nation.
