It's June & the 1st of June is the first day of meteorological summer.
Finally summer has arrived!
Let's hope it stays for a while and we can enjoy quintessential summer drinks such as orange juice.
Thirst quenching and refreshing on a hot day, the high water content in orange juice helps keep the body hydrated.
Orange juice can be enjoyed on its own, served over ice, or used as a base for various summer cocktails and mocktails, it's versatility is endless.
And it is also packed with essential nutrients,
•vitamin C
• potassium
•thiamin
•folate
One glass can provide more than 100% of the daily recommended vitamin C, which is a great boost for the immune system.
The origins of juicing oranges can be traced back to ancient China & India, where the fruit was first cultivated.
However, the popularity of drinking orange juice did not happen until the 20th century, it was particularly triggered by the need to find a source of vitamin C for troops during WWII, but soon became a staple on the breakfast menus.
These days orange juice is widely available in many forms:
•freshly squeezed
•frozen concentrate
•pasteurised (known as not from concentrate)
•enhanced / fortified
Did you know that the largest recorded glass of freshly squeezed orange juice was achieved in Valencia in Spain, it measured 1525 litres, and took 400 participants 1 hour to achieve. This Guinness world record was achieved 24th November 2016.
