I can't tell you how much power these four steps are when you are truly intentional with your child or teen. In our practice Creative Family Counseling and Coaching, LLC, we see beautiful connection and transformation in parent-child relationships when they learn how to listen, connect, validate and set aside "special time" with their child or "fun one-on-one" time with their teen. Behind the scenes, prayerfully seek discernment and opportunities to reach them - speak truth into their life - and when your child comes to you to talk....Stop, Drop (your agenda), and Breathe. Then Listen. Be there for them. That is the time to connect. Too often, we want our kids to fit into "our schedule" - and be ready to talk on "our terms" - we need to shift this mindset. And always be available to connect. Tantrum? 😤 What are the feelings behind the behavior? What is the need? Validate their feelings, connect, listen, and be their external co-regulator. They are not giving you a hard time they are "having a hard time"! Whining? Attention-seeking? They are connection-seeking! 🤗 Let's work on changing our language and mindset. They just need the skills and re-direction to learn how to do it appropriately. Don't shut them out, send them away or tell them to be quiet (to them it might mean their feelings are not OK and you are not a safe person to go to! ) They really want you in their life, they love you and they want to connect. They just need your help ❤️ #parentingtips #parentchildrelationship #validation #connection #parentcoaching #counseling #lifecoaching #familytherapy #connectionsmatter #peacefulparenting #emotioncoaching

When your teenager is burnt out, it's scary for everyone. They seem like a shadow of their former selves. Nothing interests them, nothing is fun - and they have no desire to do anything. Tired all the time, but they often can't sleep. Bored, but lacking the energy to do anything interesting. Frustrated, but unable to explain why. The whole family can feel stuck, and burnt out teenagers often find anything their parents say annoying. making it hard to discuss the situation. For this reason, I made my first mini-course specifically for teenagers last year - and it's on Burn out. It's a bit like a companion to the mini-course Burnt out by School? which is aimed at parents. It covers similar material but a bit more lightly, and it features clips from Chloe @chloemejustme who was herself 16 when I interviewed her. It's broken down into short modules and there is no homework, worksheet or reading to do. It is suitable for those with or without a diagnosis. Following popular request, we are adding this mini-course to the half price sale, just until Sunday midnight. Please share if you know parents and teenagers who might appreciate it. https://lnkd.in/ev6yGw3h
