I remember the first time I walked into a pharmacy as a licensed pharmacist. It felt like stepping into a world where every pill, every prescription had the power to change lives. But today, fewer people want to join this profession. Why? The workload is intense, the compensation often doesn't match the effort, and the respect we deserve is missing. Yet, I believe in the power of pharmacy. I believe in the impact we can make, one patient at a time. We've saved lives, improved health outcomes, and been the unsung heroes of healthcare. So, what's the solution? We need to reignite the passion for pharmacy. → By advocating for better pay and working conditions. → By educating the public about our vital role in healthcare. → By supporting each other and sharing our successes. Every challenge we face is an opportunity. An opportunity to show the world that pharmacists are not just dispensers of medication, but lifesavers. Let's lift each other up. Let's share our stories. Let's inspire the next generation to join us in this incredible journey. Are you with me?

💡 I have been thinking about Ladr for some time 💡 In 2019, I passed the PLAB exams, got GMC registration, attended hospital and departmental orientations, and jotted down my friends' advice. I felt ready and hopeful for my first job in the NHS. That year, I learnt on the job, day after day. It was a very steep learning curve. I asked a lot of questions. I got tired of asking so many questions but kept it up because how else could I learn? I used to say, "Medicine is medicine everywhere." For the most part, you'd treat a patient with pneumonia in Sudan the same way you would in England. The same goes for pre-eclampsia, a fractured femur, heart failure, sepsis, neonatal jaundice, and the list goes on. However, what differs is - the hospital system you work in, - the dynamics within the health teams, - the style of communication between doctors, patients, and their families, and - the training standards you need to adhere to and more. "I mean…what even is an ARCP? Wait, how many points do you need to get into IMT or surgical training? 😲 What are PCNs? 🤔" I watched international medical graduates (IMGs) around me come ask similar questions and figure it it out along the way. All while trying to sure a training number and not stay stuck in service delivery posts. Despite the difficulty of those first years, I learnt about the training standards needed to provide great patient care, professionalism in healthcare and how different health systems work. This is what I'd like to translate across borders with Ladr 🌍 . Whether doctors want to migrate to the UK, the USA, somewhere else, or stay where they are, there are many opportunities to help them elevate their practice and be better prepared for their roles. And at Ladr, we're doing it with tech. Interesting, right? Join the waiting list (www.joinladr.com) and follow the journey (https://lnkd.in/euRGAv7U). I am very excited! 🙌

👩⚕️3 things we learned at the Dispensing Doctors' Association Conference: 𝐃𝐞𝐜𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐟𝐢𝐭 𝐢𝐬 𝐚 𝐛𝐢𝐠𝐠𝐞𝐫 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐫𝐧 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐝𝐢𝐬𝐩𝐞𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐝𝐨𝐜𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐧 𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫. Lots of people chatted to us, worried about how they balance rising staff costs whilst profits from drug reimbursement are in severe decline. 𝐓𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞’𝐬 𝐚𝐧 𝐚𝐜𝐮𝐭𝐞 𝐧𝐞𝐞𝐝 𝐭𝐨 𝐫𝐞𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐞 𝐭𝐢𝐦𝐞 𝐬𝐩𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐬𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐜𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐦𝐞𝐝𝐢𝐜𝐢𝐧𝐞. Many dispensary staff hours are used to search for the best prices. But with shortages increasing, going from portal, to portal, is more of a pain than ever. 𝐒𝐭𝐚𝐟𝐟 𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐞𝐬 𝐩𝐮𝐭 𝐛𝐮𝐲𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐞𝐚𝐦𝐬 𝐚𝐭 𝐫𝐢𝐬𝐤. When an experienced dispensary team is in place they are used to buying manually, and understanding the complexities of categories, price tiers etc. But when you lose this experience then it can leave the team exposed lacking the knowledge needed to make the right commercial purchasing decisions. With so much change for dispensing doctors, it was lovely for Debra, Rachael, Anna and Julia to reassure them that with the right system and support, things can get better. Chatting with one member, who was on the verge of closing her dispensary a year ago, it was lovely to hear how e-CASS has been instrumental in turning the situation around. They are thriving - and hearing that makes it excited to think of all the good our team can do for new customers.

🌟 Reflections of a Pharmacist 🌟 As I pause to reflect on my journey in the realm of pharmacy, I find myself immersed in a tapestry of memories, experiences, and insights that have shaped my path. 💊📚 In the quiet moments between patient consultations and medication reviews, I've often found solace in the depth of connection forged with those needing care: each interaction is a chapter in a narrative of compassion, resilience, and healing. Throughout the twists and turns of my career, I've come to appreciate the delicate balance between the art and science of pharmacy – the precision of medication management intertwined with the empathy and understanding required to truly make a difference in the lives of others. In the ebb and flow of healthcare, I've witnessed the transformative power of collaboration and the profound impact of our collective efforts on patient outcomes. Together, we navigate the complexities of our field with humility, perseverance, and a shared commitment to excellence. As I embark on this journey, I carry with me the lessons learned, the relationships forged, and the enduring belief in the importance of our work. To my colleagues, mentors, and patients – thank you for your trust, support, and inspiration. Here's to the beauty of our shared journey, to the stories yet untold, and to the enduring hope that resides within each prescription filled and every life touched. #PharmacistLife #Reflections #HealthcareJourney

Friday Evening Fail! Failing to recognize gaps in your career. I do a fair bit of traveling for my current job. Sometimes traveling up to 2.5 hours one way to get to my clinic sites. I was recently asked why I don't take a similar position closer to home, even within McLaren Health Care. It's an interesting question, because there certainly are positions that are closer to my home. However after thinking quickly on the answer, I immediately went to what my current position has to offer. One is exposure to rural health clinics, which a closer-to-home position would not offer. Experience with rural health clinics is something I don't have a ton of experience with. Two is that I have never implemented an EHR system as they were all in place when I started at the various organizations I have worked at. While McLaren is largely Cerner Corporation based, two of my three markets are not on Cerner. So the opportunity to gain experience implementing an EHR is on the horizon for me. Third, I'm still fostering and building relationships within the markets I do serve, and hopefully, making a difference. In the end, I recognize there are gaps in my experience that I need to fill if I am going to strengthen the likelihood of getting to the next level. This week's FEF...we all have gaps within our career, whether that be within the position we currently hold or between your current position and the next level. Don't forget to recognize these gaps and work to close them. #healthcareadministration #fridaymotivation #careersuccess
