Imagine the amount of lives one of these systems could save in the case of a pile up!
Very interesting examples! For the first one, I clearly see it is not slowing down because of the perception. There is a tunnel on the left, so most probably the perception system did not even saw the vehicle coming. My bet on what is working here? Naturalistic Driving Behavior modeled for that specific intersection! If the system knows this could happen, it could act more cautiously as in the example. Well done! What would provide additional safety? Infrastructure-based monitoring and communication (V2V, V2X) IMHO, both key technologies for safer vehicles and roads!
These technologies can be beneficial for the safe operations of manned trucks as well.
Outstanding technology. Moving quickly into the future.
Thanks for sharing this. As an industry, we need to share more examples like this one that are easy for regular folks to understand. AV has a great opportunity to save lives but it requires us to educate the public so the technology is embraced and accepted. Keep up the good work!
But this causes a more serious problem for the vechile on the right side of the autonomous truck. Especially when its sight is blocked by the truck.
Any idea on when that technology will make its way to personal vehicles? Looks like a great safety feature!
Great to see this Well done.
