#expatcommunity #relocatingcountries Making Your New Country Feel Like Home for Your Child 🌍✨ Relocating abroad can be a life-changing adventure, but for children, it might feel like leaving behind everything they know. The challenge lies in creating a space where they feel both safe and excited about their new surroundings. Here’s how you can make your new country feel like home for your child: 1. Familiar Comforts: Introduce them to their favorite foods, books, and toys. It’s those little comforts that provide a sense of security in an unfamiliar place. 2. Celebrate Traditions: Even while abroad, keep up with family traditions—celebrate birthdays, holidays, or even weekend rituals that help maintain a sense of continuity. 3. Explore the New Culture Together: Make learning about the new culture a fun family project—whether it’s through food, festivals, or simply exploring the local area. It’ll help them feel connected, not alienated. 4. Build a Social Circle: Help your child build relationships by meeting other expat families or locals with children. Peer connections can speed up the adjustment process. Anecdote: My daughter, who initially missed her school friends, found joy in making local friends while attending a nearby cultural workshop. Sometimes, the best connections happen in unexpected places! Tip: The more your child is involved in your own journey of discovery, the more they’ll feel at home. Have you relocated with kids? What was your first step to making them feel at home? Drop your experiences below! 👇 #ExpatLife #ParentingAbroad #InternationalLiving #CulturalIntegration

❗️It's estimated that approximately 30% of international relocations fail, with family challenges—especially when children struggle to adjust—being one of the biggest factors. ➡️Moving to a new country can be overwhelming for kids as they leave behind familiar surroundings, friends, and routines. If a child has difficulty settling into their new environment, it can create emotional strain on the entire family, often leading to an early return home. ❤️Supporting children through this transition is essential for the success of an international assignment. #relocation #resettlement #expatsupportservicesnz

Today marks three months since my move to Norway, a chapter that is shaping up to be as enriching as it is challenging. Over the last four years, I have been fortunate enough to live in France🇫🇷, Spain🇪🇸, and now Norway🇳🇴. Each country has welcomed me with its unique culture, social nuances, and distinctive weather patterns—all of which required willingness to step out of my comfort zone and adapt (Perhaps Spain didn't require much adaptation 😃). Despite these challenges, the journey has been eased by the amazing people I have had the fortune to encounter in each locale. Reflecting on this period of transition, I am reminded of the importance of mental health, especially when navigating changes as substantial as relocating internationally and transitioning to different career stages. The journey of self-discovery that accompanies such life changes can affect one's mental wellness. It's crucial to acknowledge and address the psychological ebbs and flows that accompany new environments and responsibilities. In fostering mental well-being, we should always seek out new hobbies and activities to keep ourselves busy. If we are struggling with something, we should reach out to those around us for support. Investing time in ourselves, in both our careers and personal lives, is crucial for thriving amidst change. We should also prioritize doing the things we love the most, as they bring joy and balance to our busy lives. Embracing the adventures ahead, let's continue to support each other, stay resilient, and create space for the passions that sustain us, no matter where in the world we find ourselves. #LifeInNorway #ExpatriateLife #CulturalAdaptation #InternationalCareer #MentalHealthMatters #SelfDiscovery #ConnectingCultures #EmbracingChange #GlobalCitizen #ProfessionalGrowth #JoyfulLiving

✨ **Turning Relocation Challenges into Moments of Care** ✨ Relocating can be tough, especially during the holidays for families with young children and pets. One family faced an unexpected destination change while living in temporary housing—and their dog had been kenneled for months due to housing restrictions. At NEI, we stepped in with empathy and solutions: ✅ Found pet-friendly housing so the family could reunite with their dog. ✅ Created holiday cheer with a decorated Christmas tree and gifts for the kids. ✅ Delivered a warm, welcoming atmosphere to ease their transition. The result? Smiles, gratitude, and a smoother relocation experience. At NEI, we believe relocation is about more than logistics—it’s about caring for people - making every move a positive experience. 💼💖 #RelocationSupport #GlobalMobility #EmployeeExperience

Ever thought expats are living the dream on a perpetual vacation? It's a common misconception. Here's the truth: - We often start with zero connections. - We miss out on family events back home. - We have to learn to navigate the complex system of each country. Yes, we also face work stress, family obligations, and other personal challenges — just like you. But imagine dealing with these while navigating a language and cultural barrier. It’s like playing life on hard mode. Why does this matter? With more people moving abroad than ever, understanding these challenges foster empathy and support. It helps us better understand, assist, and appreciate our expat friends, colleagues, and family members — which in turn, makes us better parents, siblings, leaders, and team members. Let's not judge a book by its cover. ♻️ Find this useful? Repost to help your network. And follow Kevin Hwisung Jung for more. 💡💡💡 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐨𝐧𝐞 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐛𝐞𝐭𝐰𝐞𝐞𝐧 𝐚𝐥𝐥 𝐆𝐥𝐨𝐛𝐚𝐥 𝐌𝐨𝐛𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐬𝐞𝐫𝐯𝐢𝐜𝐞 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐯𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝐢𝐬... Today was one of those days where I got to talk to multiple people that simply get it: they understand what Expat Valley is all about, and why the work we do is important. One of my conversations touched on the differences between the needs of global mobile children some 20 years ago, and today. We spoke about how technological advancement has made it easier to stay connected to loved ones back home, which is a big advantage for international children. The one thing that did not change is the need for 𝐓𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐌𝐚𝐧𝐚𝐠𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭. When reviewing my notes, I realized that this is probably the óne thing that all Global Mobility service providers have in common: all our products and services evolve around an employee's (and their family's) need for Transition Management. Today's story is one example of a need for Transition Management: it describes how a teenage girl has difficulties to connect with her parents. While it appears that her parents recognize how she is not entirely happy, their solution does not match her needs. This girl needs her parents' compassion, not their encouragement. Family Dynamics is one of the many topics we cover in our Family Support Services: we support parents with understanding their children's experiences, and offer them guidance in effectively communicating as a family. Book a meeting to learn more about how our services meet a very sensitive need for Transition Management. _ _ _ 🌍 Expat Valley is the global expert on successful international family relocations. 𝐒𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐲 𝟏𝟗 𝐨𝐟 𝟓𝟐 /// 𝐈 𝐡𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐦𝐨𝐯𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐝 𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐭 “Lisa, tell this lady about all the countries you have visited!” I’m fourteen years old, and I have visited 63 countries in the world. I have lived in five, though I don’t remember much about actually living in the United States as I was only a baby when we first moved for my father’s work. I very much realize that our lifestyle is full of privilege, and my life full of opportunities. Most of my school years I have attended international schools, and now I have friends all over the world. I love that I have seen so much of the world and have met so many amazing people. I hate the moving around part. It hurts when I have to say goodbye to people. It’s painful to start again in a new place, to make new friends and build my reputation. It’s always hard work to catch up in some subjects in school, while being bored in others. I don’t want my parents to feel as if I don’t appreciate everything they do for me. They make so much effort to accommodate my needs, they send me to the best schools and I’m always allowed to participate in whatever activity I want. I know I would not have one without the other, and I don’t even think I would want it any other way. I just wish I could talk to them every now and then about how much I hate the moving around part. _ _ _ 🌍 Expat Valley is the global expert on successful international family relocations.
