The sleepy town of Mbombela playing its part in the production of ingredients (refined manganese) for EV batteries. South Africa produce 90% of the world’s manganese yet it beneficiaries less than 5% of it for export markets. How I wish, we could learn from the MMC example in Mbombela and invest heavily in beneficiating most of our minerals while also improving energy supply to local entities to allow them to be cost competitive versus Chinese factories. https://lnkd.in/dYCRbReR

Argus en terreno! Myself and Meena C. are ready for another TFI conference in the beautiful city of Washington DC, where sulphuric acid industry players gather to kick off annual contract negotiations for the key Chilean price benchmark for 2025. The current spot price for fourth quarter delivery into Chile - which usually sets the tone for the annual talks – has been influenced by deals concluded below the Asian import parity. But tight supply from key supplying regions have kept the spot price well above the benchmark for the current year. At present the spot price for deliveries into Chile are over $40/t above the annual contract of $125-130/t cfr set for 2024. And with smelting capacity in Chile - estimated at 65% in 2023 - below the industry average of 78.2% for last year according to the Chilean’s copper commission Cochilco, the country will continue to rely on large volumes of imported acid to supply its domestic needs. The market will be expectant as to what will happen in the next few months, keep in touch for further updates. #Argus #fertilizers #sulphuricacid #sulphur #chile #cochilco #copper

The Tanzania Association of Oil Marketing Companies (TAOMAC) is a platform for promoting public-private dialogue in the downstream petroleum industry. The membership of TAOMAC is open to oil marketing companies, independent surveyors, petroleum products suppliers, petroleum products depots owners and or operators and other relevant stakeholders in the downstream petroleum industry in Tanzania. TAOMAC has been a beacon of hope for companies in the petroleum industry during these turbulent times. The industry has faced serious market challenges, particularly the COVID-19 pandemic, which has had an adverse impact on the industry. These challenges have been further compounded by the US fiscal policy, which has created unpredictable and volatile global markets, resulting in inflationary pressures on local economies. Throughout these challenges, TAOMAC has remained a focal point for public-private sector engagement in addressing the daunting challenges. If you would like to know more about TAOMAC, please write to us via info@taomac.or.tz. Or visit us at www.taomac.or.tz

Aliko Dangote's insights into the oil industry challenges are eye-opening. It's surprising to hear that the mafias in the oil sector can be even more formidable than those in the drug trade. His resilience and determination in overcoming these obstacles are truly inspiring. It's a testament to his vision and commitment to driving progress in Nigeria's industrial landscape. Wishing continued success to Dangote and hope for positive strides under Tinubu's leadership. #GodBlessNigeria #MayTinubuSucceed #MayDangoteSucceed

PNGEITI Supports Decision to Delay Passage of Gold Corporation Bill 2022 The Papua New Guinea Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (PNGEITI) has endorsed the government's decision to postpone the passage of the Gold Corporation Bill 2022. This is to allow for wider consultation with stakeholders. PNGEITI executive director Lucas Alkan emphasized the necessity for transparency in discussions and recommendations preceding the amendment and the passage of the bill. The legislation is significant as it will anchor the growth of the economy by enabling Papua New Guinea to have its own gold refinery and undertake downstream processing of natural resources into a ready-to-export product.
