It felt so good to read this news - amazing validation for all the time we’ve been spending to generate learning resources on DAFs for fundraisers 😁 Fidelity Charitable makes a “significant” 3 year grant to AFP Global to create a full DAF curriculum, educating nonprofit fundraisers on how Donor Advised Funds work and how to raise more from them 🌟 “Fundraising professionals want to know about the trends, such as Donor-Advised Funds (DAFs), that are influencing the behavior of their donors, and becoming a growing and integral part of philanthropy in the United States. However, education on these trends and topics is not readily available.” 👀 I’ve been saying this for over a year to anyone that would listen - and whole-heartedly welcome more folks, with more funding, to the cause! 🗣️ It’ll take a community-wide effort to move our sector forward & increase readiness for the seismic shift in philanthropy that’s happening with DAFs 🌊 It’s critical that people working for nonprofits have the knowledge, processes and tools to maximize DAF giving for their causes - excited to keep pushing this forward 💪🏼 #nonprofit #fundraising #philanthropy

Over the weekend, I dove into the 2024 Philanthropic Landscape report by CCS Fundraising. . Despite economic challenges, US charitable giving hit a record $557.2B in 2023! 📈 My key takeaways from the report are the following: • 9 out of 10 charitable sectors grew • Over the next 2 years, total giving is expected to grow by 4.2% • AI is reshaping fundraising strategies. No, no, no..... 🤦♀️. The best first step of an fledgling philanthropist is NOT 'to pick up a vehicle through which to give' 🙄. If they haven't figured out what their aspirations are, how are they going to make the right decision about which vehicle to use to reach those goals 🤷♀️. They need to sit, think, research, and think again. There are so many collaborative groups of foundations, or platforms they can use to find other funders, that they don't need to go out on their own. Whether it is using platforms like 360 GIVING or Giving is Great to tell you what other funders are doing or what charities are working on (or using the charity commission website to do same - albeit it is not so user friendly) or reaching out to groups like Impact100 (I'm a fan of Impact 100 London), Forward Global, Toniic, Co-Impact or The Funding Network... or many others... I'm a big fan of Founders Pledge and David Goldberg (and Lever for Change) and they are offering the same as the other groups I mentioned... cohorts of philanthropists trying to find their way... but this article is positioning things in an upside down way... ... choosing the vehicle to start with is like buying furniture for your new house... before you have even bought the house 🤦♀️. #philanthropy #philanthropists #donors #funders #grantmaking #grants
