Today, we had the pleasure of welcoming Deepak from AIM Grand Consulting, one of our valued agents, to discuss our Childcare Program! Deepak’s story is truly inspiring. He arrived in Australia in 2012 through our Hospitality Program as one of our candidates. His dedication and performance left such a positive impression on his host company that they decided to sponsor him. From there, he took off to pursue new professional ventures and build a successful career. Having experienced firsthand the life-changing opportunities an internship can provide for international candidates, Deepak speaks about it with a unique and genuine perspective. It was an absolute joy to reconnect with him today, reminisce about his incredible journey, and share our mutual hope that many others will embark on similar paths through our programs. To everyone who has trusted us so far, and those who will in the future, we look forward to continuing to support your dreams! #SuccessStory #InternshipOpportunity #ChildcareProgram #AustralianInternships

We're now at the point of halfway through the Inclusive Internship Programme! Many of the 30 internships that have been offered throughout our programme across different TCD services are in full swing, with the interns now having established themselves in their workplaces - and among the peer group of interns. During our weekly team meetings, several themes often come up that offer insights into the learning journeys the different interns are experiencing: ✨Communication in the workplace ✨Self-advocacy ✨Navigating fluctuating disability-related needs and accommodations Discussions are also beginning about the interns future plans more generally, especially as several interns are approaching the final year of their studies! We offer support for these topics through peer discussion and employment-based coaching. #inclusiveemployment #inclusiveinternshiptcd #disabilityacceptance

Does attending a regular college actually make a difference? Apart from causing exam stress, regular college helped me in many ways. Having started CA in the second year of college, In the first year of college, I explored several options: I participated in: -Inter and Intra college competitions: Participating in these competitions allowed me to meet people from different colleges that helped to discover multiple career opportunities that otherwise would have gone unnoticed. -Internships: I found internships to be the best way to get an experience of the corporate work environment while still in college. -College Societies: Being a part of a society and heading the same is the best thing, you get a chance to host events, manage them from start to end and a lot more. These experiences definitely help to get an upper edge in terms of confidence, personality development compared to others. P.S: The best memory that I have from the college- farewell :) #farewell #college

After a few years of running the internship program at National Hispanic Medical Association (NHMA) and receiving anonymous qualitative and quantitative data from interns, these are just SOME key components that really help an internship program thrive: 1 - continuous feedback. Interns are absolutely yearning to hear how their hard work is perceived and what improvements can be made to their professional skillsets. 2 - 1:1 meetings with their direct supervisors. Make the time to check in with them not just as workers, but as people! 3 - providing a meaningful project that can last the duration of the internship period. Give them a product that is tangible that they can take pride in and use to propel their future. 4 - shadowing opportunities. Interns are not just task rabbits. Give them the opportunity to see the backend of how all levels of staff work and think. The NHMA internship program is different because it is altered every semester based on direct feedback from every single internship cohort. We always strive for excellence! #interns #professionaldevelopment #leadership #dcinternship #nonprofit

Last year, I attended the Society for Social Work Research (SSWR) conference, questioning whether I was on the right career path. Fast-forward one year, and what a difference it makes! This year, not only did I attend, but I also presented my first paper in a year that saw the highest number of abstract submissions ever. My presentation focused on the urgent need to reimagine social work field education. As it stands, the traditional model disproportionately affects minoritized and 'non-traditional' students, perpetuating some of the most significant social, racial, and economic justice issues within our profession, including the undue economic, educational, and emotional burdens they impose. Historically, social work was often the realm of privileged white women engaging in volunteeristic efforts. Today, however, the demographics of students entering the field have evolved, and our pedagogical approaches and professional standards must also evolve. My paper presentation, based on a secondary data analysis of the 2023 Payment for Placements (P4P) survey created by Elise Colquitt, Kate Agnelli, and Matthew DeCarlo, the first nationwide survey of social work students in predominantly unpaid internships with over 500 responses from almost 20 states and territories, aims to contribute to a more equitable practice framework in social work education, particularly concerning compensation for the extensive hours students invest to qualify as social workers.

Our team recently concluded an Internship Information Session (IIS) in Brisbane, Queensland, a vital component of the ECA Professional Year Program. Held between weeks 8 to 16 of enrolment, the IIS ensures participants are fully prepared for their 12-week internship placement, enabling them to apply academic learning in a professional Australian workplace setting. Key Aspects of the IIS: - Focused Preparation: Providing detailed insights into program requirements and employment eligibility, ensuring thorough preparation for upcoming placements. - Engagement and Interaction: Conducted onsite in a face-to-face format to facilitate direct interaction with facilitators, enhancing the exchange of information. - Compulsory Attendance: Essential for students' professional development, non-attendance may impact their placement readiness. The IIS acts as a bridge, equipping participants with tools and insights for a successful internship experience, enhancing their readiness for the professional world. Participation signifies a commitment to professional growth, ensuring they maximise internship opportunities for personal and professional development. If you're interested in hosting an intern, feel free to connect with Hozaifa Khambati in VIC, Sarah Singh in NSW, Pema Pema in QLD, or Gerard Felipe in Geelong.
