Day 12/30 a 🌱☕ The Art of Growing Coffee ☕🌱 Every great cup of coffee starts its life on a farm, in the heart of the #coffee belt—a region blessed with the perfect climate and soils to nurture coffee plants. The growing process is as intricate as it is fascinating, and it sets the stage for the coffee's quality and flavor. Here’s a deeper look into growing coffee: 🌍 Location: Coffee thrives in tropical climates, typically at altitudes of 1,000–2,000 meters, where cooler temperatures allow cherries to mature slowly, developing complex flavors. 🌱 Soil: Rich, well-draining soils—often volcanic—provide essential nutrients for healthy growth. ☀️ Climate: Coffee plants love consistent temperatures (15–30°C) and regular rainfall (about 1,000–2,000 mm annually). 🍒 Varieties: Arabica: Known for its delicate, sweet, and complex flavor, it thrives at higher altitudes but requires more care. Robusta: More resistant and strong, with earthy flavors and higher caffeine content, grown at lower altitudes. 👩🌾 Cultivation: Coffee trees take 3–5 years to produce their first harvest and can bear fruit for up to 30 years with proper care. Farmers ensure optimal growth through pruning, shading, fertilizing, and pest management. 🌸 Flowering and Pollination: White, fragrant flowers bloom after rain, lasting only a few days. Bees and wind work their magic, helping cherries form and ripen over 6–9 months. 🤲 Harvesting: Selective Hand-Picking: Farmers pick only the ripe cherries for the highest quality. Strip Picking: A faster method where all cherries are harvested at once, common in large-scale farming. #CoffeeGrowing #BeanToCup #SpecialtyCoffee #Sustainability #CoffeeFarming #CoffeeLovers

The combination of the balmy tropical climate of Nicaragua and the fertile volcanic soil grows the most delicious bananas with a rich texture and vibrant flavorful taste. Our Regenerative Organic Certified® bananas are a unique Gros Michel heirloom variety, grown in the nutrient-rich soil of northern Nicaragua, where our partnering smallholder farmers use regenerative organic farming techniques to draw down atmospheric carbon into the soil to cool the earth. The banana mother plants take about nine months to bear fruit, and at this time, an exotic pink flower will bloom at the top of the banana’s trunk. As the flower grows, it unveils clusters of bananas. 🍌 🍌 🍌 To harvest the bananas the farmers use a machete to cut through the thick stem, which they afterward use as compost or to protect the soil as a groundcover. Visit our Storybird site to learn more about where our bananas come from and how they get to you. 🐦 https://lnkd.in/g5zQ4JZZ #solorganica #organicfruit #regenerativeorganic #regenerativeorganiccertified #regenerativeagriculture #bcorp #bcorporation #tropicalfruits #exoticfruits #driedfru #purees #IQF #wholesalefoods #nicaragua #dragonfruit #pitahaya #superfruits #smoothies #fairtrade #nongmo #regenerative #soilhealth

Did you know that mushroom production is responsible for almost a ninth of the peat that is extracted annually in the UK? 😱 Any lover of the natural world would avoid buying peat products when possible, but we can’t always make this informed decision due to lack of labelling. So where is peat hiding? 🍄 Mushrooms: It’s almost guaranteed that a mushroom bought in a supermarket will have been grown in peat. 🌿 Leafy salads and potted herbs: It's not just mushrooms — your favourite salad leaves and herbs rely heavily on peat. 🌱 Plug plants and house plants: Most of these will have been grown and sold in compost containing peat. So what can you do? Sign our open letter! We're calling for clearer labelling on products that contain or have been grown in peat, so that consumers can make an informed buying decision, and we can tell retailers why we need to finally get peat removed from supply chains. ✍️ Sign the open letter today: https://lnkd.in/exBD5HYv #Climate #Nature #NatureRecovery #Peat #Peatlands
