Insightful article on #supplychain from Harvard Business Review around how to identify and work with small, diverse-owned business (SBD). They mentioned the Minority Business Development Agency - U.S. Department of Commerce (MBDA), NATIONAL GAY & LESBIAN CHAMBER (NGLCC), and National Minority Supplier Development Council (NMSDCHQ) to name a few. When developing a business it is imperative to database of vendors that can help you execute your vision. https://lnkd.in/eAXyFWag

The UK BME Anti-Slavery Network (BASNET) unveiled its Race EDI Action Plan in July 2021 to establish mechanisms to hold the UK modern slavery sector accountable in addressing issues related to racial disparities, diversity, and inclusiveness. We are putting together a progress report to measure how far the sector has advanced in efforts to improve equality, diversity and inclusion. To inform our progress report, we are launching a survey targeted at CEOs, Trustees and Senior Managers of UK Antislavery and Anti-Trafficking organisations. The primary objective of the survey is to systematically gather data on advancements made by UK Anti-Trafficking organisations in the realm of Race Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI). At Argus, we’re on a continuous journey towards workplace equity, driven by our unwavering dedication to diversity, equity and inclusion (DE&I). Since the global call to action sparked by the Black Lives Matter movement, we've examined our culture, acknowledged our biases, and set tangible goals to create an equitable environment for all. From anti-racism training to the launch of our DE&I Library, our efforts are aimed at fostering a culture of empathy and understanding. We're learning, adapting, and seeking to understand the unique manifestations of racial inequities and bias in different cultures and locations. DE&I is among our core values. We're dedicated to this effort and appreciate the continuous learning, adaptation, and courage it requires from everyone involved. Today is International Women’s Day - a day of global activism and celebration to mark the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women, and to act as a powerful reminder of the work that still needs to be done. This year’s theme is ‘Inspire Inclusion’, which aims to inspire others to understand and value women’s inclusion and cuts to the heart of Police Now’s mission, to inspire outstanding and diverse graduates to be leaders in society and on the policing frontline. We know that women in policing and in society face significant challenges. Recent reports focusing on policing’s internal culture and Violence Against Women and Girls make it clear that there is still a long way to go to make women feel safe in the workplace and wider society. Police Now is committed to improving diversity and inclusion within the police service and communities, by recruiting outstanding individuals and equipping them with the skills and support needed to foster inclusive environments, challenge negative cultures when they see them, and lead in ways that build public trust and confidence in policing. Hear from some of the women recruited and trained via Police Now’s programmes as they speak about their passion for empowering others and being the change they want to see.

The final week of August is packed with historical milestones including the 60th anniversary of the #MarchOnWashington, when 250k+ people protested persistent intolerance and inequities for Black and African Americans, the 103rd-anniversary of the Nineteenth Amendment establishing that an American citizen’s right to vote cannot be denied on the basis of sex (now recognized each year as Women's Equality Day), and the International Day of People of African Descent, created by the United Nations to eliminate discrimination and celebrate the extraordinary contributions of people of African descent. #DEI is embedded in our mission, our culture, and the way we approach our work. Whether we’re developing solutions to help mitigate bias in AI, applying research and evaluation expertise to advance health equity, designing VR training to foster empathy and help prevent sexual assault and harassment, building solutions to achieve accessibility standards, or applying change management, employee engagement, and marketing and communications expertise to help the federal government advance inclusion, diversity, equity, and access to improve opportunities and outcomes, DEI is an integral part of how we work and what we do at CVP. ▶ Interested in working with us to help clients advance #DEI in the federal government? Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Advisory, Crisis Communications, Corporate Strategy and Employee Engagement
Members of our Patterson Belknap community are still beaming with pride and gratitude after participating in an #InternationalWomensDay volunteer service activity, in partnership with the Bowery Residents' Committee. Attorneys and business services professionals offered career guidance and encouragement to NYC residents — most of whom were Black, Brown and immigrant women of varying ages — who are experiencing homelessness and housing insecurity. My few takeaways from the experience: (1) Many women who are experiencing homelessness are actively employed — usually in part-time, off-the-books work, or engaged in a job search, but simply cannot earn enough in wages to rent affordable housing in this incredibly expensive city. (2) Let’s stop relying exclusively on college degrees and highest GPAs from the most prestigious universities and colleges as a proxy for determining someone’s creativity, collaboration, competence and willingness to problem-solve. Rather place more emphasis on grit, resilience, humility and professional maturity which abounded in the women clients we met at our offices who were so appreciative of our support. (3) Do not assume that those living in precarious and unstable housing commited some “unforgivable,” life-altering mistake that justifies their situation. We met poised, technically-trained, college graduates and entrepreneurs who presented as incredibly capable and diligent professionals, but encountered everyday life challenges without the benefit of a safety net. (4) Those experiencing homelessness and living in shelters want to enjoy the pride of financial independence, self-reliance, and the dignity of work. (5) Create space for your employees to tell their personal stories and their journeys to your companies — particularly those who are not the most senior leaders. I have a renewed respect and admiration for and draw great inspiration from colleagues for their perseverance and dedication despite the odds and limitations others would impose upon them because of their backgrounds. Thank you BRC for the partnership and our Patterson volunteers for your service. This personally and professionally fulfilling experience has had a positive and indelible impact.
In recognition of Women’s History Month, Patterson Belknap’s women attorneys and business services professionals offered career guidance and encouragement, led mock interviews, and delivered resume feedback to women clients of the Bowery Residents’ Committee (BRC) Workforce Development Program. This program assists residents of BRC’s shelters in overcoming employment barriers, empowering them to become effective job seekers and valued employees. The event was sponsored by the firm’s Women Lawyers at Patterson resource group and was a deeply meaningful and memorable experience for everyone involved. The parallels between cybersecurity and inclusion are striking. Just as people only notice cybersecurity when an attack happens, they only notice inclusion when they feel excluded. We hosted Lynn Dohm from Women in CyberSecurity (WiCyS) for an insightful talk on the striking parallels between cybersecurity and inclusion, revealing why exclusion often goes unnoticed and offering actionable advocacy strategies. The session shone light on why it can be challenging for leaders to understand the impact of exclusion, share instances that cause women to feel excluded, and helps mobilize (and not paralyze) advocacy in action.
