I have a question in regards to setting up a home lab pc. I want to get a nice little computer that is solely dedicated to hosting virtual machines so I can practice penetration testing on along with other labs such as active directory. I currently have a computer that im doing the labs with, but I use it to play games and I feel it would be better to separate the two. I'm not really interested in looking for second hand parts on ebay, too unreliable. I'd also would like to keep it under $500 if possible. "Easy-to-understand narrative will win even if it's inaccurate" 😭 This screenshot is being posted around, accompanied by variations of "someone at CrowdStrike forgot to check for NULL pointers! How amateurish!! C++ bad!!!". But was it really the case? 👇 1️⃣ This is not the only crash dump, other people have similar crash dumps that show reading attempts from different addresses, some very far from 0 aka NULL. 2️⃣ Serious people (see: Tavis Ormandy on X) who do this for a living have seen from the disassembled code that there WAS indeed a null check prior to dereferencing. 3️⃣ CrowdStrike has posted a blog about the incident: https://lnkd.in/gdRWZGuq, which states "This is not related to null bytes contained within Channel File 291 or any other Channel File." And let's not even get started on the narratives attempting to link this issue to DEI 😓 #crowdstrike #bsod #nuances #maybenotnull

Some lessons I just don't learn. Last week, I reinstalled Elden Ring. Followed a build guide. Wiped at the 4th boss. Uninstalled. I don't mind a challenge, but game design where you fight your way to a boss, fight them, then are immediately dumped into another boss fight where, if you die, you need to do it all again? Fuck all that. Most overrated game ever. When you view the game design choices objectively, it's terrible. How a game where the combat emphasis is mostly about running away is a 'good game' baffles me. A game where progression in levels does not equate to progression in power? People all brag about how it's 'good' because it's 'hard'. Kind of how people used to talk about CISSP. Of course, it was never hard. It's multiple-choice, for Christ's sake. That's the lowest form of assessment.🤣 No, I won't be buying the expansion, thanks.

"While a simple launcher application, GooseEgg is capable of spawning other applications specified at the command line with elevated permissions, allowing threat actors to support any follow-on objectives such as remote code execution, installing a backdoor, and moving laterally through compromised networks."
