So wonderful to be working on the development of award-winning writer Vic Zerbst’s new comedy disco musical ‘Converted!’, a feel-good show all about queer teenagers who just want to fall in love, but face a system desperate to police, politicise and discuss their identities. With music and lyrics by Vic Zerbst and Oliver John Cameron, and directed by ATYP’s Associate Director, Hayden Tonazzi, our talented workshop cast and crew hosted an exclusive preview performance this afternoon. Hoping to produce this show in 2025 - stay tuned for an announcement on Converted!

Oh, but I do miss some Kurt Loder, MTV News! And he is spot on with this quote, even though it was likely first shared in the late 80's or early 90's. Things are so much different now, aren't they? What I love most about popular culture is the power it has to tell us stories and educate us on current issues or highly emotional situations... those stories can be related safely and more humanly when we view them through characters. When we view these issues from the outside looking in, that sometimes causes us to feel more empathy, or to understand a difficult subject clearer. Two movies that I still love to watch and gave me my very early education on gay relationships and the AIDS crisis are: TORCH SONG TRILOGY (1988) ...AND THE BAND PLAYED ON (1993) And I still think they are two of the best movies about both of these topics. What movie or TV show taught you something about current issues? * * * * * #topfivepodcast #popularculture #movies #music #filmcriticism #rockandroll #classicrock #cultclassics #epicmcpeak #instainfluencer #instapopculture #ouropinions #neverwrong #lifestyleinfluencer #popculturedebate #createyourself #creativehappylife #creativesoul #creatorgram #socialmediainfluencer #lifeinfluenceart #artinfluencelife

🎬✨ Why do we love the movie musical "Chicago"? Let's talk about the dazzling Richard Gere as Billy Flynn - the charismatic lawyer who could charm the robes off any judge! 🕺💼 His performance alone is a reason to watch, bringing to life the flamboyant and smooth-talking attorney with a knack for turning the courtroom into a stage. "Chicago" isn't just a film; it's a full-blown, toe-tapping extravaganza! 🎶💃 It's like your favorite album; you can experience it over and over, each time finding something new to love. The way it embraces its theatrical roots instead of watering them down for the screen makes it a standout - it's big, it's brassy, and it's a whole lot of fun. So, if you're in the mood for a film that combines killer performances with show-stopping tunes, give "Chicago" a watch. It never gets old! 🌟🎥 #Chicago #MovieNight #RichardGere #Legalmovies

I love this piece! So impactful and moving! 🌈 We have the power to set standards and determine the baseline! Let’s lift it up for differently abled people and raise them up to all they can be! 💪 #Empowerment #Inclusion A lot of my friends and family know I have #ADHD, but not many know that part of it meant I struggled with my imagination and reality. 🧠✨ I learned how to differentiate it as I grew older - the opacity of my imagination became more opaque (ha! Now you think I’m crazy 😜) and I learned coping techniques to get over certain types of behaviours. As a creative person by job title and existence, it has been useful. But sometimes I lose it or am deemed weird. 😅 It is the ones that love me, accept me, and laugh with me through those moments that make me feel ok about the way I am, how I behave, and my place in this world. 🌎❤️ That and the fact that the sum of who I am is not determined by one moment of failure but all the experiences I have had, the lessons learned, and the aspiration to do better! 🚀 While I love robots 🤖.. I kinda love humans too because we all have things we aren’t so good at! But together we can be good at a lot of things! 🤝💡 #CreativeMinds #ADHDAwareness #TogetherStronger

Inclusion starts with I “Our negative assumptions about people with Down syndrome can lead us to treat them in such a way that these assumptions become reality. In sociology, this is called a ‘self-fulfilling prophecy’. Why not reverse our perspectives? If we have positive assumptions about people with Down syndrome, we'll give them more opportunities in their schools, workplaces, relationships and activities. And maybe these positive assumptions will become reality.” #AssumeThatICan #WDSD24 #WorldDownSyndromeDay #EndTheStereotypes

Meet the cast of Great Expectations!🎩We asked Brett Sullivan Santry some questions about the show: Tell us a little bit about your character. Magwitch's character, that of the Honorable Criminal, is loaded with symbolism that was deeply personal to Charles Dickens, whose own grandfather fled England to avoid prosecution for embezzlement. Similarly, the crime for which Magwitch is deported is non-violent, the passing of forged banknotes. Once given a chance to flourish overseas, he does, and it is his dogged determination to make right by Pip's gesture of kindness to him that drives his arc of redemption. His actions say a lot, I think, about both the author's and the playwright's stance on the Nature vs. Nurture argument. What are some of the unique challenges that you've encountered during rehearsals? 'Doubling,' the theatrical practice in which actors play several roles within a given play, is one of my favorite challenges as a performer. It's a joy, in fact. Making each of my characters distinct from one another compels me, as their creator, to be even more attentive to specificity and clarity in the choices that make them individuals. Great Expectations is one of Charles Dickens' most enduring stories, adapted many times in a variety of media. What remains timeless about this classic coming-of-age tale? The cycle of Fortune never stops, from age to age, society to society, and person to person. This particular story asks us to think about the struggle we invite into our lives as we engage with that cycle, either fighting against it, or allowing it to guide us. Of course, another word one might use for that struggle is drama. What's something an audience member should know before they see this play? I encourage audience members to think critically about these characters, their actions, and their journeys, aside from their more obvious traits or functions. They might surprise you, whether you recognize them from reading the novel, seeing other adaptations, or not. They still have the ability to surprise, I think, and maybe even, if you'll forgive me, defy expectations. Great Expectations runs November 1st-10th at the New Hazlett Theater. I transform Workforce Potential into Organizational Success | Expert in Talent Acquisition, Employee Engagement, and Culture Building.
Being a human resource manager is like being a circus ringmaster—you're juggling paperwork, taming wild personalities, and trying to keep the entire show running smoothly. One minute you’re mediating a dispute over a stapler, and the next, you’re planning a company picnic where someone inevitably shows up dressed as a hot dog. Your days are filled with motivational speeches that rival TED Talks, while secretly hoping that the only drama in your office is the kind that comes from a well-written soap opera. At the end of the day, all you want is for everyone to play nice and maybe score a free donut from the break room. #Day8of14 #Linkedinpowerup #14dayslinkedinpowerupwithAlice #Careergrowth #SocialDevelopment #HumanResources #Communityengagement #wearetheroothub
