As a psychologist, people often marvel at the diversity of serious and clinical/nonclinical matters we MHPs handle, but then they downplay their own issues, thinking, "𝑴𝒚 𝒑𝒓𝒐𝒃𝒍𝒆𝒎𝒔 𝒂𝒓𝒆 𝒎𝒊𝒏𝒐𝒓 𝒄𝒐𝒎𝒑𝒂𝒓𝒆𝒅 𝒕𝒐 𝒕𝒉𝒐𝒔𝒆." This perception can be quite misleading and potentially harmful. 𝐋𝐞𝐭'𝐬 𝐫𝐞𝐟𝐫𝐚𝐦𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐩𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞. Think of a hospital. People visit for a multitude of reasons—from serious conditions, requiring surgery to a simple stomach ache or a minor scratch. Does the presence of severe cases mean that those with less critical issues shouldn’t seek medical help? Absolutely not. Health care is for everyone, irrespective of the severity of their condition. The same principle applies to mental health. Counseling and therapy are not reserved solely for those with severe or clinical issues. Mental health care is about addressing anything that hampers your life, no matter how "small" it may seem. Comparing problems only diminishes the very real impact that "smaller" issues can have on our well-being. 𝐇𝐞𝐫𝐞’𝐬 𝐚 𝐠𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐥𝐞 𝐫𝐞𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐫: 1. 𝐍𝐨 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐬𝐨𝐧 𝐍𝐞𝐞𝐝𝐞𝐝: Your feelings and challenges are valid, regardless of how they compare to others. Your journey is unique to you. 2. 𝐒𝐞𝐞𝐤 𝐇𝐞𝐥𝐩 𝐄𝐚𝐫𝐥𝐲: Don't wait for issues to become overwhelming. Early intervention can prevent minor issues from growing into major ones. 3. 𝐘𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐑𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭 𝐭𝐨 𝐖𝐞𝐥𝐥𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐬: Seeking help is your right, just like seeking medical care. Next time you hear about someone else's struggles, remember that 𝘴𝘦𝘦𝘬𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘩𝘦𝘭𝘱 𝘪𝘴 𝘢 𝘱𝘦𝘳𝘴𝘰𝘯𝘢𝘭 𝘫𝘰𝘶𝘳𝘯𝘦𝘺. Whether your issue feels big or small, reaching out for support is a step towards a healthier, happier life. 𝐘𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐥 𝐡𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐭𝐡 𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐬. Let’s make mental health care a norm for everyone, regardless of the perceived size of their issues. Share this message to help spread awareness and encourage a healthier approach to mental wellness.
