I applaud the work of Kaz Daughtry and the NYPD VICE team, but as a survivor of trafficking, I would like to suggest a change of focus when referring to "improving the quality of life" for the community members and students, staff, and parents who are coming to and from the school located across the street from these brothels. If the focus of the comments from our LEO's would placed on protecting the community from the dangerous criminals who are buying and selling human trafficking victims instead of putting the emphasis on "scantily clad women who are soliciting men for s*x acts" we can help tell a more accurate story of the crimes occurring in plain sight. These types of establishments are almost always run by an enterprising trafficker who receives financial gains from the criminal enterprise. The buyers were willing to break the law by purchasing prostitution, and the brothel being located across from a school did not prevent them from bringing their cash and driving demand. The "scantily clad women" being sold were most likely being exploited with elements of force, fraud, or coercion influencing or pressuring their participation in the illicit business. Hopefully, we can use opportunities like this to tell the truth about trafficking.

I'm sad today. It feels like TOO MUCH. With everything in the news, my own personal experience and testimonies from those I've worked with... I'm starting to believe that the reason that HUMAN TRAFFICKING is happening is because there are MORE of the CONSUMERS in this world...than those that are not. Human Trafficking is the use of force, fraud, or coercion to obtain some type of labor or commercial sex act. The levels of participation from top to bottom...outnumber those that refuse to participate. Haven't we asked a million times...how so many can be involved at so many different levels? And why do they never get prosecuted? Here's what I know. #1 We have CONSUMERS. Thus...demand is strong... #2 Human life means NOTHING to people. As long as we get what we need, forget anybody else. LIFE is disposable. We even argue about what makes a HUMAN a viable true HUMAN BEING. Come on...We debate and argue over THAT. This part of humanity...doesn't matter. So it would be logical to think that THOSE IDEAS would permeate every corner of society. A LIFE IS NO BIG DEAL. There's more where that comes from and plenty to choose from. #3 We have LOTS of people who have SEEN things. But they won't TELL. For all KINDS of reasons...they do NOT tell. If just those who have seen something horrible happening to another human being...would have the courage and be able to be FREE to state what they know...maybe THEN...we'd see the tides turn. HUMAN TRAFFICKING is ALL about MONEY(easy supply and unending demand), COERCION (let me find your pain point and threaten to hurt you or someone you love), FEAR(is the noose around our necks, the cage that keeps us trapped, the prison we feel we won't ever be able to leave.) The only way to have a different outcome is when people's hearts are changed. You and I can't do that. Only Jesus can do that. God gives us a voice. DO what you CAN. Stand and speak for those who can't. 20 Years of FREEDOM!!! 20 years ago today, I broke free from 20 years of human trafficking, exploitation, so many addictions, pain, poverty, anger, and sin. I didn't only discover the way to get free, but I've stayed free for two decades! My journey to freedom didn't just give me the answer to a life free from my sin, but also gave me freedom from all of the sins that had been committed against me, and every single one was answered with His love. 20 years ago today, on the carpet of the little office in the tiny church on the top of the hill, just outside of town, I gave my life to Jesus, and He gave me a brand-new life in return. I came into His Kingdom that day, and He has walked with me as we have continued to explore all the riches available to me, just because I chose to believe He is who He says He is. It would be nice to be able to tell you I knelt down on the padded carpet and said a pleasant little "sinner's prayer," and then walked away a new woman, but that isn't at all how it happened. There was actually a lot of sobbing, weeping, snot, tears, and writhing on the floor as I was delivered from a demon who had literally been torturing me for my entire life. As soon as it was gone, I saw JESUS, and I knew He had been the One always with me in the darkness, every time the men had their way with me as a little child, all the times I had been raped, sold, shot at, knocked unconscious, beaten within inches of my life, overdosed in dirty motels or alleyways, He was ALWAYS there, and He always led me to safety. Just 48 hours before I found myself on the carpet of this church, a scary pimp had taken me to brothels and crack houses all over the city, forcing me to do things I would never have chosen to do, but as the sun came up, Jesus came and showed me the pathway to freedom. That path led me up this hill to this little church, and this pastor and his trusted sidekick (an absolute saint of a Prayer Mama) led me to Jesus. When Jesus told me, "I require your life," I gladly gave Him my broken, worthless, empty life. In return, He immediately gave me this brand-new life I live today! In an instant, I went from being broken to being made new. From being empty to being filled up! From being hopeless to overflowing with HOPE! If you're one of my brothers and sisters in the Kingdom, thank you for the fellowship, encouragement, and Christian love you have shown me throughout the years. If you haven't yet given your life to Jesus, I pray that this story is what you need to hear to make the decision to believe, repent, and receive Jesus as the King of your life. He will not disappoint, and He will never, ever leave you! Here's to the last 20 years and the rest of all eternity!!!🎉

No drunk leprechauns, rainbows or pots of gold. Instead we learn Patrick was a human trafficking survivor who found freedom and healing for his heart and a burning desire to help others find the same. 💚

1yFor me, there were milestones with my family that I needed to reach before I could be comfortable taking on a leadership role in my career. When the time was right, I saw the opportunities opening around me so much more clearly. I set a target and beat a path to it. Now I am embracing my new role and all the ways I'm growing and preparing for whatever's next. I'm not saying that it was easy. After so long raising children with my ambition on the back burner, it seemed like a stretch for me to take on so many new responsibilities at work. The truth is, being mom first is where I learned to be adaptable, delegate, and keep cool under stress. I was ready, and, sometimes surprising to me, I was able. They say the best time to plant a tree is 30 years ago, and the second best time is right now. Hard work pays off. Integrity is an asset. Don't sell yourself short.
