At our Autism Assessment Centres, we are committed to championing neurodivergent-inclusive language. Our aim is to provide families with a sense of empowerment and control of their own environment. By maintaining the right culture during assessments from the right people with the right skills and knowledge, it builds better relationships with children and families to ensure comfortable and accurate assessments. This book, along with the experiences Carly shared online over the course of her self-advocacy years, helped me to understand my son's perspective. For those working with non-verbal autistic individuals, I'd consider this book a must-read. #autism #nonverbal #speechtherapy #actuallyautistic
If you've been a part of the autism community for some time, you may remember Carly. She's not online anymore sharing her experience, however, she's said all that she wants to say about autism. We appreciate every moment and experience she's shared, as it's helped many families over the years. This book is a must-read for those who are trying to understand those who are diagnosed with "level 3" or "profound" non-verbal autism. https://lnkd.in/eMmZMZ3g

“We are studying such a small subset of people and systems of care, while the vast majority of individuals with autism live in places where we haven’t been doing research." This fact became a driving force behind UVA assistant professor and autism researcher Michaela DuBay's desire to collaborate with local communities in under-resourced regions to enhance autism care and support for families. As a researcher with the Supporting Transformative Autism Research (STAR) initiative, DuBay is involved in several research projects in Bolivia. https://ow.ly/vegh50Uofvq

Significance of Autism Awareness Month Autism Awareness Month is a time to promote understanding and acceptance of autism spectrum disorder (ASD). This annual observance is held every April to raise awareness about the challenges faced by individuals with autism and their families. 1. Promoting Understanding and Acceptance One of the main goals of Autism Awareness Month is to increase awareness and understanding of autism. This includes educating the general public about the signs and symptoms of ASD, as well as the challenges that individuals with autism may face in their daily lives. Through increased awareness and understanding, society can become more accepting and inclusive of individuals with autism. This can help to reduce stigma and discrimination and promote a more positive and supportive environment for individuals with autism and their families. 2. Supporting the Autism Community Autism Awareness Month is also an opportunity to show support for the autism community. This includes individuals with autism, their families, and the organizations and professionals that work to support them. There are many ways to support the autism community during this month, such as participating in autism walks and fundraising events, volunteering at local autism organizations, or simply spreading awareness through social media and other channels. Overall, Autism Awareness Month is an important opportunity to promote understanding, acceptance, and support for individuals with autism and their families. By working together, we can help to create a more inclusive and supportive society for all. #share #AutismAwareness #AutismAcceptance #AutismSupport #InclusionMatters #Neurodiversity #AutismCommunity #UnderstandingAutism #SupportAutism #AutismAdvocacy #CelebrateDifferences #DisabilityAwareness #AutismAwarenessMonth #DiversityAndInclusion #SeeTheAbleNotTheLabel #AwarenessToAcceptance

It is important to examine what service model can allow adults with autism to age with dignity and meaning in the community when their caregivers are gone. With over 7000 adults with autism today, there is a pressing need to look into this as they and their caregivers age. Adults with autism: Will supported living in the community be the answer? https://lnkd.in/gQebcVNm
