Captions! Why captions? Check out what Dustin has to say....
Profoundly deaf Keynote Speaker on workplace culture, communication and acccessibility 🎤 CEO & Founder of HearsDustin
Did you know closed captions were first invented in the US in 1971 specifically for the d/Deaf and hard of hearing community? Quick show of hands, who uses closed captions and does NOT have hearing loss? 👋🏼 Today, we ALL use captions in our daily lives, right?! As a storyteller, I enjoy sharing stories related to various topics around #accessibility, #disabilityInclusion, #hearingloss, etc. in such a way that we can all relate. I like to "normalize" these topics, just like my late grandfather "normalized" his prosthetics in my household and our community. He never hid his right hook or left wooden leg in public. He wore them with pride, along with his perfectly ironed button down shirt and "slacks", he called them! 😆 That's what "Puppy" taught me -- to "normalize" your differences. Because at the end of the day, the word "ability" is in "disability" for a reason! Thank you for this life lesson, Pup! 🙏🏼 #MotivationalSpeaker #Awareness #Diversity #Equity #Inclusion #DEI

Art therapy can be a transformative tool for children and families, offering a creative outlet for expression and healing. Through drawing, painting, or sculpting, children can explore complex emotions such as sadness, anger, or anxiety in a non-threatening way. Participating in art therapy as a family can strengthen relationships. Collaborative art projects encourage teamwork and shared experiences, helping family members connect on a deeper level. This shared creative journey can enhance trust and communication. By fostering emotional expression, enhancing communication, and building resilience, it can lead to meaningful healing and growth. #ArtTherapy#ChildTherapy#CreativeExpression #HealingThroughArt#FamilyBonding#EmotionalWellness #TraumaInformed#MentalHealthMatters #ChildDevelopment

I’m probably going to open a can of worms but, yolo. Whenever I stumble upon something inaccessible, I will try to point this out in one or two ways: 1. I leave a friendly comment. 2. I send the person a private message. What I don’t do is use it as an opportunity to sass the person, become rude, or act all smug. This kind of behaviour, to me, feels self-serving and won’t inspire people to make change. But yet I see it daily. No one should be shamed for inaccessibility. We cannot know what we are not taught, and we all know accessibility is not taught enough. If someone gets it wrong, they get it wrong. People make mistakes. What we don’t need to be doing is shaming someone for getting it wrong. Image Description: A Disabled by Society quote graphic. A thick pink border outlines the page with a purplish/ blackish text box. Inside the text box, there's a blue speech mark, a quote and the Disabled by Society Logo. The quote reads, "No one should be shamed for not knowing how to make something accessible.” #TuesdayThoughts #DisabledBySociety #DisabilityInclusion #Accessibility

Let's Get Playing! Celebrating the Power of Play on International Day of Play Today, on the International Day of Play, we celebrate the fundamental right of all children to play! Play isn't just about fun and games (although that's important too!). It's a critical part of a child's development, fostering: Cognitive skills: Problem-solving, creativity, and imagination soar through play. Social skills: Playgrounds become classrooms for communication, collaboration, and empathy. Physical development: Running, jumping, and building gross motor skills happen naturally through play. Emotional well-being: Play allows children to express themselves, manage stress, and build resilience. But what can we do? We all have a role to play (see what we did there? ) in championing children's right to play. Here are some ideas: Parents and caregivers: Put down the devices and dedicate time for unstructured play. Educators: Integrate playful learning activities into the classroom. Businesses: Support initiatives that create safe and accessible play spaces in communities. Everyone: Advocate for the importance of play! Share your stories and use #InternationalDayofPlay to raise awareness. Let's work together to ensure every child has the opportunity to play and reach their full potential. What are your favorite childhood play memories? Share them in the comments! #ChildrensRights #Development #Learning #Community #Fun
It has been called a "forgotten right" (Art. 31 #UNCRC) ... but the Child's Right to Play is at the core of its being + cognitive, physical, creative, social and emotional development. So let's celebrate 11/6 International Day of Play and seriously promote the right. #childrensrights

As Halloween approaches, you might wonder, what is too scary for children of different ages? Each child is unique, making defining what might be overwhelming for all challenging. The key is to know your child well and observe their reactions to potentially scary images and situations. Pay attention to what they seem worried about, avoid, or discuss—these can be clues that something is frightening them. Parents are often surprised by what might scare their children! For example, a 2-year-old was terrified by a life-size sculpture of a bear ready to attack in a museum exhibit. They froze fear! When their family arrived home, they excitedly pored over the exhibit map. But when they reached the bear, they simply said, “We sip [skip], okay?” and moved on to the next one! 💖 What experiences have surprised you about your child's fears? Share your stories in the comments below! #EllenMorano #PranicHealing #ChildDevelopment #UnderstandingFear #PositiveParenting #KidsEmotions #ParentingTips #RaisingHappyKids #LearningThroughExperience
