To continue the Autism Acceptance theme beyond April we have decided to be a part of Walk for Autism - seems like a wonderful initiative to not only raise money for support but also with the hope of more people becoming aware of what Autism is and how you can be in a better position to understand. 🤚🏽For those that would like to donate to our May walks please use link below 🤚🏽For those wanting to help raise awareness please repost Autism posts 🤚🏽For those looking for more information on understanding Autism these links are pretty cool sites - the youtube video gives a brilliant insight into sensory overload and is great way of demonstrating to those unaware why earpod sales for ASD people has risen so sharply and more importantly seeing what can cause a meltdown - BTW, its really not cool when you get the demonic glare from others who feel your child needs disciplining in these situations.... 👍🏽 https://lnkd.in/gzR5eP-W 👍🏽 https://lnkd.in/ggXFP5sN 👍🏽 https://lnkd.in/g6AcmRRY

April is World Autism Month, a time to celebrate autism acceptance and to raise awareness of the challenges that autistic people continue to face in society. We support the work of CRC Central Remedial Clinic and Rehab Group, two organisations that provide essential services to autistic people across Ireland. The work of these charities ensures that children and adults with autism can continuously progress and reach their full potential. #SupportingEachOther #MindingEachOther #WAM #Autism #WorldAutismMonth #AutismAwarenessMonth #AutismAcceptanceMonth

Some parents of autistic children may find it challenging to understand why their kids struggle with social interaction, especially when they excel in other areas. Does this resonate with you? You are not alone. The characteristics of autism vary from one child to another, so does the level of how they understand social cues. One tip is to begin working with a health care provider who specializes in providing behavioral, psychological, educational, or skill-building interventions. These programs are often highly structured, intensive, and they may involve caregivers, siblings, and other family members. Hi All, Last year I began working at Ambitious about Autism, a national charity that supports autistic children and young people in the UK. I have been able to witness first-hand the amazing work we do, truly changing the lives of young people and their families who otherwise are unable to access mainstream education. Right now, autistic children and young people are facing impossible challenges in their daily lives. Unfair treatment is becoming routine, invisible, and unchallenged. Autistic young people are pushed to the margins, with families under enormous pressure and now losing hope. Going to school is a daily battle for autistic young people, who face bullying, exclusion and a lack of government support. When they grow up and try to get a job, they again face rejection for being different. Less than 3 in 10 autistic people have a job. Meanwhile families are in crisis trying to support autistic children and young people while struggling with rising living costs. Now is the time for change. We want to ensure that the right support is in place at the right time, for every autistic child. I am incredibly proud of the work we do and from Monday 1st to Friday 5th July 2024, I am looking to raise money to help create a world where every autistic young person can be themselves and realise their ambitions. I am reaching out to all friends, family and colleagues to ask for a donation, that however small, could make a considerable difference: £5 could help bring a sense of belonging to an autistic young person, by ensuring the online community is there when they need it. This can help parents and carers experiencing challenging situations access vital information and support through our Talk about Autism online platform. £10 could help an autistic young person overcome isolation, by providing a dedicated peer-to-peer support session run by our Ambitious Youth Network. It can be helpful for autistic young people to talk to others who have lived experience of autism. £20 could help bring independence to an autistic young person, by providing one-to-one careers information, advice and guidance. With very few autistic people in employment, providing this support is vital to accessing the workplace. Please click on the link below to donate on my fundraising page:

Now that we are public, it’s time to talk about why summer camp matters for #autistic children. Most autistic children receive supports through their school to assist with the social and emotional deficiencies that can be present with #autism. Our children work hard for nine months out of the year and then summer comes… There are very limited summer opportunities for autistic children and those that exist are for a week or two, not the entire summer. To keep from skills regression in executive function and to continue establishing relationships with peers, it is imperative that autistic children have opportunities to engage with their #neurotypical peers. But hiring a private aide and finding a camp willing to take your child is a costly challenge. It can cost $7-10,000 to have your child adequately supported at camp, in addition to the $2,500 in camp tuition. What is an autism parent to do? That is where #ThePositivitySpectrum comes in. We are raising funds and fighting the fight to ensure autistic children can spend a meaningful summer with their peers. Please consider helping us achieve this ambitious goal. Every $20 raised is one hour of support for an autistic child at camp. #autism #actuallyautistic #autismspectrum #autisticchild #autismmom #autismdad #autusmparent
