It is good that Ford has 21% less recalls this year, "only" 54 so far. I am a loyal Ford customer and still keep an 08 Sable, an excellent car, but a few things should have been better designed. 1. The OBD MIL indicated a defect thermostat; as a matter of fact, the thermostat was good, but the coolant temp sensor ECT was bad (deserve a recall). To make it worse, you have to take the cylinder head off to reach this sensor, a poorly located sensor can turn a simple job to major and expensive repair. 2. The engine was randomly stalled at idle a couple of times with no OBD warning. The root cause is that engine speed sensor wiring was very close to hot exhaust pipe, but without heat shield. After the plastic cover was eventually worn out due to exhaust heat, the copper wire may accidently touch exhaust pipe to short the sensor out, causing engine stall. A $2 heat shield can save the trouble. Poor cost-saving decision. 3. Ran into creeping mode due to bad transmission output speed sensor, which is located inside the transmission front cover, had to remove the cover, solenoid valve assembly, etc., to access the sensor. For quite a few Ford vehicles, this sensor can be easily accessed without opening anything. Obviously, even inside the transmission PD group, guys did the work differently, and in my opinion did not follow better engineering practice (I am aware that this 6AT was co-developed with GM, just like the 10AT on F150). 4. Used Windex spray to clean the inside windshield. Afterwards, the car refused to start. Battery and starter fuse were good, no click no other noise at all. Confused for a few minutes, I blew the steering column junction using a hair dryer. Then I can fire it up normally. My best guess is that a few liquid drops went into the steering column, perhaps accidently short the ignition switch. Almost funny, but I did not open the cover to check. I can list a few more. My point is that a few fairly simple design changes can certainly improve the vehicle significantly, such as sensor locations. Other issues may require additional effort, such as the differentiation between ECT and thermostat malfunctions. A simple comparison of all temperature sensors at cold-start condition may not be sufficient for OBD algorithm. To take care of all the details, maintaining an experienced team is quite important.
Through Dec. 18, Ford Motor Company issued 54 recalls affecting nearly 5.7 million vehicles in the U.S. this year. However, that's down about 21 percent from the number of recalls it issued in 2022. Of the U.S. recalls Ford issued this year through Dec. 18, the largest involved a callback of nearly 1.3 million older model Fusion and Lincoln Motor Company MKZ vehicles for rupturing front brake hoses. In the world of BEV and PHEV vehicles, the battery is more than just a power source, it’s the heart of the vehicle. The recent Jeep recall for battery fire risks sheds light on how vital it is to perfect battery technology. Stellantis didn’t source these batteries from just anyone, they chose Samsung SDI, a globally respected name, emphasizing the complexity and critical importance of stable battery performance. The process of designing and executing a flawless battery is ongoing and only companies that master it are truly equipped to capture the market. Brands like Lucid Motors and BYD lead the charge here, showcasing incredible battery innovation and setting standards that elevate the entire industry. The stakes are high and it is clear that the companies pushing the limits of battery tech today are shaping the future of mobility. #BatteryTechnology #EV #ElectricVehicles #AutomotiveIndustry

This is an intentional virus. This is biological warfare! Once truck drivers get exposed to the R1T, it's game over for ICE, except in the most demanding of applications (which 99% of light duty trucks are NOT used for) More great leasing deals than just the great Rivian deal in this article: https://lnkd.in/gbazV-uU #EVtruck #EVLease
You can now lease a Rivian R1T for cheaper than the Nissan Titan, starting at $559/month

VW recalling 99,000 ID.4 EVs because doors could open unexpectedly Volkswagen is recalling 98,806 of its ID.4 electric vehicles due to defective door handles that could cause doors to open unexpectedly. The recall includes 2021-2024 models assembled in both Zwickau, Germany, and Chattanooga, Tennessee, which may have door handles that can’t effectively keep out water. VW believes less than 1% of the affected vehicles have https://lnkd.in/g-Vwuba8

When the Government moved the electric only car sales requirement from 2020 to 2035 they forgot to adjust the interim rules tapering up to 100% electric. They know this, but have not done anything about it. Stellantis, the maker of Peugeot, Citroën, Vauxhall and Fiat vehicles, has threatened to end its car making in the UK due to electric vehicle (EV) production rules. UK laws say fully electric cars, as opposed to hybrids, must make up 22% of all automakers' sales but data from the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders shows that just 16% of sales are EVs. Producers face fines of £15,000 per non-electric vehicle sold. Warning that “the fact is that demand is not there," Stellantis managing director Maria Grazia Davino said production in the UK "could stop." She said Stellantis will make a decision on whether or not to end UK production in "less than a year," adding: “Let me be clear, I want to keep the production in the UK.” Oh, how our Civil Service loves regulation…

🚘 Stellantis has issued a reminder to the owners of over 24,000 plug-in hybrid minivans to park their vehicles outdoors and away from buildings. Due to the possibility of battery fires, the company also advises stopping the charging of these minivans. The recall involves certain 2017-2021 Chrysler Pacifica plug-in hybrids, mainly in North America. Engineers are working on a fix with a software update to detect battery issues. If a problem is found, dealers will replace the high-voltage battery at no cost. 🌟 Owners will be notified by mail for service details and can check their vehicle identification numbers after July 24 on recalls.mopar.com or checktoprotect.org.
