Lucid has initiated a voluntary safety recall for over 5,200 Air luxury sedans in the United States. The recall addresses a software issue that could cause unexpected loss of power while driving. This problem stems from the High Voltage Interlock safety mechanism activating incorrectly during vehicle operation. Lucid is rolling out a free over-the-air software update to fix the issue. Additionally, the company is recalling another 7,506 Air sedans due to a coolant heater malfunction affecting windshield defrosting. Lucid will notify owners by August 15, 2024, and reimburse any related out-of-pocket expenses. This recall highlights the ongoing challenges faced by EV manufacturers in ensuring software reliability and safety. https://lnkd.in/gq7Wb26A #LucidAir #EVRecall #ElectricVehicles #SoftwareSafety #LucidMotors #AutomotiveTech #EVSoftware #NHTSA #USAutoIndustry #ElectricCars #BatterySafety #OTAUpdates #EVMaintenance #AutoSafety #ZeroEmission #SustainableMobility #EVInnovation #TechChallenges #ConsumerSafety #AutomativeRecall

#LucidGroup Inc (NASDAQ:LCID) announced a recall of more than 2,000 of its Lucid Air electric sedans due to concerns over a faulty part in the cars’ heating units. #LucidAir vehicles from the 2022 and 2023 model years may have an issue with their high-voltage coolant heaters (HVCH), which supply warm air to heat the interior of the car and defrost the windshield. "Lack of defrost capability poses a safety risk due to a possibility of obstructed driver vision," Lucid said in a recall report on Friday. The company said that a software update this month will inform drivers if their vehicle’s component has failed. Faulty parts will be replaced at Lucid service centers. Lucid noted that its HVCH parts were supplied by the German company Webasto AG. Shares of Lucid were down more than 7% midday Friday after already dropping Thursday on disappointing fourth-quarter results. My BMW 135i is 16 years old today. It has the original battery, 90k miles, never garage kept, 0-60 in about 5 seconds, stick shift. It will need new turbos and clutch within the next 10-20k miles I bet, but other than that it has had no other maintenance other than an accessory belt change, new ignition coils, and a coolant hose and a headlight controller. It has no power seats, no LCD screen in the dash. I get about 23mpg. This car is better for the environment than any other vehicle on the road by my measure. If the USPS can make a long life vehicle, where is the environmental initiative to make long life passenger vehicles? Where are the half-million miles cars?

Tesla’s latest screwup involves making the font size of its braking system too small Image: Umar Shakir / The Verge Tesla’s latest massive recall is a weird one. It’s not about reported problems with sudden braking or driver monitoring alerts or seat belts. Nope, this one is all about font size. It turns out that the font size for Tesla’s brake warning system is a bit too small. How small? Smaller than 3.2 millimeters, or one-eighth of an inch, as prescribed by the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards (FMVSS). So the company has to recall all 2.19 million vehicles it has on the road today — again. It may seem minor, but font size can correlate to safety when all your vehicle’s controls are ported through a touchscreen. According to the recall notice filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), visual warning indicators... Continue reading…

#snsinstitutions #snsdesignthinkers #snsdesignthinking ACTIVE VIBRATIONS ENHANCEMENT SYSTEM IN ELECTRIC VEHICLES American automobile manufacturer Dodge is developing new electric vehicles that will also cater to the ICE fans. These Dodge EVs will capture the excitement and nostalgia of traditional internal combustion engine (ICE) cars by featuring advanced systems like Active Sound Enhancement (ASE) and Active Vibration System Enhancement (AVE) to replicate the sounds and sensations of driving a high-performance ICE vehicle. This advancement has been revealed as the automobile giant has recently filed patel both these new systems. The Active Sound Enhancement (ASE) system will comprise of interior and exterior speakers to produce artificial engine sounds that match the car's speed, acceleration and torque. This system will try to replicate the sound of a powerful V8 engine, giving the sensation of sitting in an ICE powered car. Contrastingly, the Active Vibration Enhancement (AVE) system will contribute by generating vibrations that will recreate the sensation of a conventional engine car, adding onto the overall driving experience. Aligning with these plans, Dodge's upcoming electric model, the Charger Daytona SRT is likely to be equipped with a 'Fratzonic Chambered Exhaust ' that is capable of producing up to 126 decibels of sound, significantly louder than a supercharged Hemi V8 engine.

ABS systems are now standard on many new vehicles and are great, when they work! The purpose of ABS is not to reduce stopping distances, but to provide extra assistance when steering in an emergency. With approximately 22% of road incidents relating to faulty or unmaintained braking systems, this recall is a major safety concern for all road users.
