Sales tip #31: Don't expect recognition but appreciate it when it happens. We are in sales for more than money, right???  Yes, sales can be financially rewarding but there is a competitive element. And oftentimes, when you talk about competition, the subject of recognition often comes up. The biggest "snub" I ever had was the year following the WisDOT win at Autodesk. I was riding high at the sales kickoff the following year. I could see them announcing my name as "Government Rep of the Year." I wasnt ever a finalist!!! Yet, looking back, I know the impact of that sale and really didnt need recognition.  Besides, it was really a "team win" that went far beyond my involvement. Yes, it would have been nice but it showed me how setting unrealistic expectations can be harmful. So appreciate the appreciation but don't expect it! Your one thing: Set low expectations on getting recognized!
