The Color of the Future: The Rise of White in Automotive Design Go Mango, Plum Crazy, Mimosa Yellow, Purple Fiction, Green Hell - these are just a few examples of creative colour code names for past or present car models. But looking on the roads, one must wonder: where did all these colours go? White, a color with a long history in cars, has become the most popular car color in the world. Today, more than 30% of all cars globally are white. But why is white so popular? Simply put, it embodies a blend of modernity, elegance, and a futuristic appeal, all while remaining timeless. And for the more pragmatic approach; it's high resale value. The adoption of white in car design is not merely a matter of aesthetic preference, but a reflection of the evolving relationship between technology and style. Ever since Apple came out with white products, the color white has become emblematic of a futuristic and technologically advanced aesthetic. And as cars became more tech-filled, white seemed to be a good match. Also, white isn't just white. It comes in many shades with different finishes and shades, from glossy to matte and from plain to metallic. Names such as Polar White, Snow White, Arctic White, Alpine White, Biarriz White, Diamond White, Rhodium White and many others are trying to describe the subtle differences in appearance. The debate on white cars is controversal though. Some say white conceal a car's shape, while others view it as a symbol of elegance and purity. What's your opinion on white cars? Do they diminish design or represent sophistication? Swipe through some iconic examples and feel free to suggest any other cars you think might complement this list. ◾️ 𝘧𝑢𝘯 𝘧𝑎𝘤𝑡: You probably heard Henry Ford's most famous quote about his offering of car colours, but did you also know that painters in his factory worked naked to avoid dust contamination? Glad, we found better solutions to this problem. ◽️ 𝘮𝑜𝘳𝑒 𝘧𝑢𝘯 𝘧𝑎𝘤𝑡: First metallic paints did not use metal flakes but fish scales for the sparkling effect. One Kilo of paint took 40-thousand herrings to make. #cardesign #designtrends #colourtrends #automotivedesign

Enhancing the aesthetic appeal of a car interior is no small feat. It involves achieving a cohesive and visually pleasing color scheme through hundreds of different parts, from glossy and matte plastics to textured leathers, and across different globally located manufacturing sites. Relying solely on visual color assessment is inadequate as the perceptions of color can vary depending on the individuals, the surrounding lighting conditions, etc. This approach lacks precision and consistency, making it unreliable for communicating color information across global supply chains. Objective color matching of different car interior parts requires the use of advanced technologies like spectrophotometers, especially one that can measure both color and gloss - given the variety of materials used in car interiors. Head over to our blog for further insight on evaluating the color and appearance of different car interior parts, including the spectrophotometer, to ensure color harmony in car interiors. https://lnkd.in/gFFUda4u #automotivecolormeasurement #automotiveglossmeasurement #carinteriorcolorharmony #carinteriorcolorinspection #spectrophotometers #autoplasticscolormeasurement #steeringwheelcolormeasurement #dashboardcolormeasurement #cardoortrimcolormeasurement #carseatcolormeasurement #blackfinishevaluation #spectrophotometers #colortechnology #spectrophotometry

5 design gems on the new Renault 5 The first storied design to channel the seventies? The first French design to take the fight to British and Italian small premium cars? Full of lovely design gems this one. Unequivocally the star of the 2024 Geneva Auto Show, the Renault 5 steps from Michel Boué’s original 1972 Mk1, and the 1984 Mk2 designed by Marcello Gandini (with nods to the Turbo too) as a uniquely French small storied car design alternative to the established British Mini and Italian Fiat 500 - both designs that reference their fifties originals whilst the Renault logically brings retro references to the seventies. Now a pure EV, the design is full of big and small references to its forebears — more so maybe than any other ‘retro’ design perhaps — mostly evident in its exterior graphics, with core proportions and even form owing more to contemporary European automotive design. Great to see this design realised — in one form or another it must have on most of Renault designers sketchpads for the past 20 years — some of the choicest design details (several classic 5 signatures) we detail in this short article: https://lnkd.in/eUDAjvFX
