Major traffic and road projects worth Dh13.1 billion have commenced in Abu Dhabi, as announced on Tuesday. Abu Dhabi Mobility (AD Mobility), the new identity of the Integrated Transport Centre (ITC), shared details of the initiatives aimed at improving transportation infrastructure. The projects include the addition of new lanes and pedestrian pathways at the intersection of Sultan Bin Zayed the First Street. These enhancements are designed to alleviate bottlenecks, accommodating an additional 3,500 vehicles while also improving pedestrian movement. This extensive investment aims to facilitate smoother traffic flow and promote safety for all road users. By upgrading key intersections and expanding road capacity, the initiative seeks to enhance the overall mobility experience in the emirate. GLOBAL RAIL MARKET WATCH: IN THE NEWS Dubai's Metro service is set to expand by providing more stations for commuters over the coming few years after a development plan was approved on Sunday by the emirate's Executive Council. The expansion aims at increasing the currently operating 64 stations over 84 square kilometres to 96 stations over 140 square kilometres by 2030. It aims to cover 140 stations over 228 square kilometres by 2040. Some of the key goals include increasing the share of public transport to 45 per cent, reducing carbon emissions to 16 tonnes per capita, improving the quality of public spaces to encourage walking and increasing shaded areas. These are aimed at developing areas around Metro stations with the aim of enriching economic opportunities, interconnecting modes of public transport, and improving efficiency and convenience of sustainable transport. 🚆 🚊 The Riyadh Metro, currently under construction, is set to transform the way people travel in Saudi Arabia’s capital. Once completed, the metro will span six lines and cover more than 176 kilometers, making it one of the largest public transportation systems in the world.
