🔎📒24 Anecdotes: AutoScouts' Stories Uncovered - #11 Feel the excitement of our teams as we launch a new product. As part of our #ouryear24 campaign, our Director of Engineering, Mathias Eckert, shares insights from the kickoff of #AutoScout24Smyle. In April 2021, I stepped into my role as Director of Engineering for the Smyle tech organization at AutoScout24. Back then, we were a small team of just three engineers. But with a shared vision and hard work, we rapidly expanded our team to 30 talented engineers. In an incredible turnaround, we launched AutoScout24 Smyle, a fully functional online car sales platform within just six months. I’ll never forget the thrill of launch day. On September 15th, 2021, we gathered in our Munich office, surrounded by many stakeholders. With a mix of excitement and nervous anticipation, we pressed the button to go live. Smyle was then displayed for everyone to see on a big screen. The room erupted in cheers, and champagne bottles were popped. I felt immense pride in our team and our collective effort. Despite the high-pressure situation due to some initial technical issues, everyone pulled together seamlessly that day to make it a huge success. Our Smyle launch was more than just a product release – it was a testament to our capability and determination. Many doubted that we could launch such a complex product in just six months, but we proved them wrong. We showed that with teamwork and perseverance, we could make the impossible happen. 👉What's the #ouryear24 campaign about? We're blending our iconic '24' with the year 2024: celebrating milestones, sharing employee stories, and more. Stay tuned for more. #WorkingAtAutoScout24 #24anecdotes

I want to thank the Sonatus team for the time they spent with me yesterday at #ces2024, reviewing their expanding product portfolio. A special thanks to Kathleen Pearl, the Head of Partnerships and Strategic Alliances, who made me blush (which is hard to do!) when she mentioned that my writings on Software-defined Vehicles are widely distributed and read at Sonatus. I am truly humbled. I also had the pleasure of speaking with John Heinlein, Ph.D. and Jimmy Yang. Jimmy gets bonus points for listening to my entire journey through SDV, and my past adventures with Wind River leading up to the Aptiv acquisition and what I was trying to do there 😂. Let's briefly discuss what I observed and discuss its relevance to the future of the automotive industry, particularly in the context of SDV. Defining SDVs at this stage can be somewhat challenging, but for simplicity, imagine it as a complex 'web'. This web encompasses a variety of capabilities - some existing, some emerging, and others yet to be developed. All these elements are crucial for shaping the future vehicle, requiring integration in a robust, scalable, and secure manner. Given the sheer number of these capabilities, developing them simultaneously presents a significant challenge. So, the question arises: what should a company do in this scenario? I believe Sonatus is adopting an effective approach. They're using 'accelerators' to foster innovation at a quicker pace in this sector. Rather than attempting to dominate the entire ecosystem – a strategy I've often criticized and one some companies are pursuing – Sonatus is developing technology that merges the best of existing technologies with innovative solutions for specific SDV challenges. Their strategy appeals to me more than the traditional Tier-1 supplier route, as it prevents OEMs from being locked into specific hardware and software solution stacks. As I've repeatedly emphasized, any OEMs that commit to a proprietary SDV 'platform' (a term I use loosely, given that the offerings I've seen range from mere science experiments to lead balloons) should reconsider their strategy. The advancement of SDVs will likely be driven by companies like Sonatus and Entner Consulting Group, LLC, which can engage in the SDV dialogue objectively and thoughtfully, free from the incentive to merely sell automotive components. The journey towards SDVs is undeniably complex, resembling a journey through a tangled web. However, the solution to this complexity lies in forming synergistic partnerships that effectively combine hardware, software, strategic solutions, and a holistic approach. I am excited to delve deeper into this topic with Sonatus in an upcoming episode of 'The Garage' podcast. Additionally, I will offer more detailed insights into Sonatus' contributions in my forthcoming 'State of the SDV Report 2024.' Stay tuned for more. #automotive #sdv #innovation

The future of the automotive industry is tech-driven, but is the workforce ready? 🚗 With up to 30% of vehicle costs tied to software by 2030 (McKinsey & Company), car makers need a tech-savvy workforce to stay ahead. The key is to upskill current employees to bridge the skills gap and meet the demands of AVs and EVs. Investing in education and training isn’t just smart—it’s essential for navigating this industry transformation. As I bid farewell to CARS24 after 8 incredible years, I'm filled with a mix of emotions. This journey wasn't just a job, but a purpose. From building a team from scratch to scaling a 0-to-100 organization, it's been an exhilarating ride! I'm grateful for the amazing team, innovative experiences, and unforgettable memories. Cars24 will always be a part of me, and it's hard to let go of the memories because they remind me of a great story that I never expected to end. My time at Cars24 taught me a valuable lesson: Life is like a "Radio", not an "MP3 player". You must be willing to "Adjust and move" out of your comfort zone to enjoy new things. I'm excited for my new adventure and will share updates soon! As I move to a new city with new aspirations, I want to thank my colleagues and leaders who have impacted my life. You know who you are. Remember, when transitioning, it's essential to acknowledge the moments and people that helped you grow. Change can be uncomfortable, but take the small moments that created bigger dreams with you. I'm proud to have been part of Cars24's history, I'm humbled to be the only employee in the last 9 years to receive the prestigious Employee of the Year award from our founders in 2019. This rare recognition is a testament to the trust and support I've received from my team and leaders. Thank you, Cars24, for an unforgettable journey. Here's to new adventures and continued growth! P.S : Although the video quality may not be perfect, the memories it holds are priceless. I'm sharing this sentimental video as a tribute to my incredible 8-year journey at Cars24. This video represents the laughter, tears, and triumphs I experienced while building a team from scratch, driving innovation, and disrupting the auto industry. #NewChapter #Grateful #Cars24 #EntrepreneurialJourney #Leadership #Innovation"
