Over the weekend, I had the privilege to participate in Innovher’s D2C Summit 2024. The event was a unique blend of energy, bringing together Marwari Business Families, young students, and passionate entrepreneurs. It's not often you witness an audience that talks about ‘business & profitability’ alongside ‘innovation & legacy’ in one space. Unlike typical start-up events where fundraising takes center stage, this 3-day summit focused on deeper, more meaningful conversations. The emphasis was on sustainable growth without relying solely on external valuation validation or burning investor capital. Initiatives like this are paving the way for family businesses to rise to unicorn status, grounded in strong ‘Marwari’ business principles and a spirit of innovation. 🔍 Key Insights: 1. Generational Collaboration: I had the chance to interact with an entrepreneur managing a family business with three generations involved. It was fascinating to see how the second generation is balancing the foundational principles of the business while allowing the younger generation the flexibility to experiment and carve out their own identity within the group. 2. A Deep Love for the Land: Throughout the summit, there was a strong emphasis on building for Rajasthan. Attendees from various age groups and backgrounds showed a deep commitment to preserving and enhancing the region's core sectors—manufacturing and handicrafts—which often don't get the spotlight they deserve in the start-up ecosystem. There was a shared passion for making Marwari Businesses as competitive and attractive as the start-ups in Bangalore, Mumbai, and Delhi. The presence of officials from Meity and the Government of Rajasthan further underscored the commitment of governing bodies to recognize ecosystem challenges and support the building of a robust entrepreneurial environment.
