🧠 Why Are Concussions So Complex? Concussions are not one-size-fits-all. There are seven distinct types: autonomic, affective, cognitive, oculomotor/visual, vestibular, sleep, and somatic. Each subtype requires different diagnostic and treatment approaches, and the order of treatment is crucial. To truly excel in concussion care and provide the best for your patients, you need to master diagnosing and treating all seven subtypes. The nervous system is your body's control and communication network, using your brain and nerves to send messages that help you think, move, and respond to your surroundings. When your nervous system isn’t regulated, it can feel like you’re always in a state of fight, flight, or freeze. It’s a constant stress that your body wasn’t made to sustain. Therapy can be a critical part of regulating your nervous system – but it can also throw it into overdrive as you work with your practitioner. That’s where therapies such as the Safe and Sound Protocol (SSP) can help. The SSP is your non-invasive listening therapy for a journey to better nervous system regulation. It’s designed to reset your nervous system, allowing it to return to a state of safety. It is one of my favorite tools in my therapeutic toolbox because it integrates seamlessly with other modalities. Here’s how it works: 1️⃣ Listen In. You’ll tune into specifically selected music that helps interrupt your body’s nervous system defense responses. 2️⃣ Shift to Safety. As the music plays the SSP activates the neural pathways used to process sensory information — in other words, it helps your brain respond from a state of relaxation rather than stress. 3️⃣ Engage More Deeply. You’ll be able to engage in therapies more deeply as you interact with your practitioner from a safe space. To make progress toward emotional wellness, you need to first be able to operate from a feeling of safety. The SSP is proven to help. If you have had trouble operating from a place of safety, I may be able to help. Schedule a call with me to see if the SSP resonates with you and your body. #SafeAndSoundProtocol #PolyvagalTheory #NervousSystem #Transformation #Therapy
