It’s hard to pivot a legal career. But about 60 percent of today’s jobs didn’t exist a few decades ago according to US Census data. I’ve seen people with years of experience reinvent themselves by targeting opportunities like this. IP lawyers landing product counsel roles. Commercial counsel retooling to specialize in data privacy. Paralegals and litigators becoming legal operations pros and chiefs of staff. Cottage industries sprouting up around ALSPs and legaltech. New opportunities in areas like AI and other emerging areas will create new demand that outweighs the current supply. If you stay vigilant, you’re not stuck doing something you hate.

Taking Privacy, Trust & Transparency to a new level @Openli ✨ | Passionate about Privacy💡| Growing a Community for In-house Legal & Privacy Pros (it's free)
There are many open in-house legal & privacy positions right now. If you’re considering applying, here’s an important thing to do before sending that application: Make sure that your Linkedin profile is up to date! This includes: ✔ Updating relevant experiences and describe what you’ve been doing in these roles. ✔ Take a look at your “headline”. Many just write “Legal Counsel” or “Privacy Counsel” or “DPO” - consider making it a bit more descriptive. ✔ And make sure that your “About” section contains a good description of you and your skills. You are more than a “legal counsel”, “a DPO” or ” GC”. You are e.g. “I’m inhouse legal counsel at XXX and I love supporting Sales, Marketing and Support with legal advice and xxxx. This includes negotiating contracts, jumping on sales calls and supporting with xxxx. My main strengths are stakeholder management and negotiating contracts ” (PS make it longer and better than this little example 😊 ) Your Linkedin profile matters. #inhouselawyer #privacypros

I'm often asked for a sample job description for a head of legal operations, so I've worked with some friends from Fortune 100 companies to crowdsource and create this ideal one. Scoping and positioning this role for success is critical and not easy to do. This isn't meant to be perfect, but I hope you find this document to be a useful starting point for your organization to edit as appropriate. Note that this was drafted with a large corporate setting in mind, specifically for roles involving team management or future managerial responsibilities. #jobs #legaloperations #legalops #jobdescription
