***POST UPDATE: April Fools*** Unused spaces in Sydney Opera House to be repurposed into luxurious boutique hotel rooms. ✔️ The Sydney Opera House is to embark upon ‘an innovative initiative to repurpose a portion of the iconic venue into boutique 5-star hotel accommodation’. In response to the growing demand for prestigious accommodations in Sydney, it has been decided to provide ‘unique experiences’ by offering accommodation at a Sydney Opera House hotel whilst retaining its main function as a performing arts venue. The plan is to ‘offer an unparalleled experience that combines culture, comfort, and convenience’ and to transform an ‘architectural masterpiece into a world-class hospitality destination’. Unused spaces ‘including backstage areas, foyers, administrative offices and storage spaces’ will be redeveloped in to 15 luxury hotel suites. A joint spokesperson for the government of NSW and the Sydney Opera House Trust has said that ‘this will not impact with any of the main performance halls and auditoriums’. Feasibility studies are being carried out into the redevelopment. Renowned architects, Foster + Partners, have been contracted to provide the designs. A public review is due to take place this Summer before a planning permission application later this year.
