The remaining 10% is about the technology foundation." - Harvard Business Review Our Chief Product Officer Rich LaBarca (one of the brightest CRM minds in the mortgage space and beyond) recently commented on a LinkedIn post using the above quote. I've always loved this quote. The way I see it in the mortgage space, it all comes down to 70% leadership, 20% data and 10% technology platform. Unfortunately, the biggest mistake our industry makes is not bringing strong and bold leadership "beyond the loan manufacturing process." The industry has invested so much money and time in technology to speed up loan manufacturing, but it hasn't delivered. I believe that in the lending process, presenting a fee worksheet versus leveraging advanced tech to be modern advisors represents a critical 'moment of truth.' Those who pivot to help customers achieve their financial goals will be profitable in bad and good markets and they will gain market share going forward.
