Unlocking the Future: Why Intergenerational Courses Are Necessary 🌟 In a rapidly changing world, the need for intergenerational courses has never been more evident. Here's why they are absolutely essential: Diverse Perspectives: Every generation brings its unique life experiences and viewpoints. By coming together in intergenerational courses, we can tap into a rich well of wisdom, creativity, and fresh ideas that push boundaries and drive innovation. Mentorship and Learning: The transfer of knowledge between generations is invaluable. Older generations can impart their tried-and-true expertise, while younger ones can bring cutting-edge skills and digital proficiency to the table. It's a win-win for everyone involved. Strengthening Communities: Building bridges between generations fosters stronger, more cohesive communities. It promotes empathy, understanding, and the development of a shared vision for the future, ultimately resulting in a more harmonious society. Professional Growth: In the workplace, intergenerational courses promote better teamwork and collaboration. Understanding and respecting generational differences can lead to improved communication, higher employee morale, and enhanced productivity. Inclusivity and Equality: By actively involving all generations, we create a more inclusive and equitable learning environment. Senior Lecturer in Learning Enhancement and Academic Development @QMUniversity | Senior Fellow HEA| CATE Award 2020
Dear Compassionate Colleagues! We are really pleased to announce that Neil Currant @UniofBeds Liz Bunting University of the Arts London and I Queen Margaret University have been successful in securing funding for a The Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education Collaborative Enhancement Project. https://lnkd.in/dYAQdS_T We are setting up a network for those interested in #compassionate #assessment and how we can move the HE sector towards more compassionate assessment policies and practices. As educational developers who have been working in this area for some time, and on the back of our previous QAA Collaborative Enhancement project Belonging through Assessment: Pipelines of Compassion, we wanted to: - Share good practices and policies. - Encourage research and collaboration related to compassionate assessment. - Co-create resources to support greater compassion in assessment. - Empower ourselves and others to bring about change to the sector. We have launched a JISCmail list, please join here: https://lnkd.in/dATgZBRc *We are hosting an online launch event on Friday 22nd March at 1-2pm and invite you to join us to start conversations and share approaches. Book a space here: tinyurl.com/3mhu7xvu The event will cover: - Short introduction from QAA - What is compassionate assessment? - Discussion on what compassionate assessment means to you? - Existing resources on compassionate assessment - Invitation to contribute *About the network: * Since the pandemic, there has been a growing interest in compassionate pedagogy. The pandemic highlighted the urgency of responding to student wellbeing and discussions on how to support students during this challenging time. This rupture sparked critical reflections in the sector about how we might “reimagine assessment for good” (Sambell and Brown, 2021 p.11). Compassionate pedagogy is one of relational education, building relationships with students to notice distress and oppression, and take action to reduce harm. However, the ideas of compassionate pedagogy and compassionate assessment are challenging concepts, both conceptually and as something to implement in practice. Quality assurance and regulatory pressure as well as institutional and disciplinary cultures present significant barriers. Andrew et. al. (2023) provide a useful framing of these issues in their editorial ‘The role of compassion in higher education practices’, highlighting the gap between wanting an ethos of compassion and the reality of practice and policy. We look forward to future conversation and sharing on compassionate assessment. The Quality Assurance Agency (QAA) who has kindly agreed to support the setting up of this network. I teach doctors, nurses, and allied health professionals English for Healthcare, with a focus on the OET.
I failed my driving test twice before finding the right teacher: he was recommended by the Friends of the Western Buddhist Order (FWBO) in Colchester. He loved to tell me 'Helen, your mind is very racy...' and that I needed to calm down to be a safe and competent driver. He annoyed me a bit at the time, but he proved a worthy teacher who got me through on the third attempt. Today is the deadline for candidates to the ECFMG (the US regulator for medical education) to submit all their paperwork to apply for a medical residency at the hospital or hospitals of their choice. One of the documents required for International Medical Graduates is a results statement for OET Medicine with Bs in Listening, Reading, and Speaking and a C in Writing. This means that a student who did not attain those scores needs to prepare everything again before reapplying next year. In this blog post, I highlight for recruiters the importance of early OET preparation for their candidates. If you need help with an OET resit, check out my OET Resit Ready course starting 6th March and 3rd April. https://lnkd.in/eXdqDxUF #usmle #usmleprep #workinusa #oetdoctors #doctorsrecruitment #testprep
