Trying to consolidate an event like #SHRM24 into one cohesive post is quite difficult. I have been working at events like SHRM Annual Conference & Expo for over 20 years, but nothing compares to the sheer magnitude of it, and not just because there were 26,000 attendees or because Kelly Clarkson put on another show-stopping performance. The collective mindset of #betterworkplaces is what left the greatest impression on me. From the Expo Hall where some of the greatest conversations took place among attendees, sponsors, and our incredible exhibitors to the employee lounge where colleagues discussed the day’s takeaways to the hotel shuttle where I met some truly incredible thought leaders and speakers humbly sharing their life’s work and passions. Even though it was a conference, it was unlike anything I had attended in the past. There are too many moments that impacted me to report here, but I will start by thanking all the SHRM members and attendees for taking time away from your work and families to invest in yourselves and your employees. There is no greater gift a manager has ever given me than time away from the office to self-develop. Thank you to our SHRM team and countless volunteers, without whom this event would not be possible. I will never know the hours, months, and years it takes to put on something like that. Thank you to my leaders, George and Leslie, for investing in your team and thank you to the many new friends I made (please comment below so we can stay in touch)! If there was one thing that kept resonating with me throughout, it was the tone that was set by an executive in a panel on Sunday in the Executive Network track. Simply but profoundly put (paraphrasing), “Be a culture steward and have courage. Model the behavior you expect within your organizations,” Brian Dickens. Also, shameless plug, but way to GO VOLS!!!🍊⚾️ Jason Isbell, singer/song writer puts it this way, “It gets easier, but it never gets easy.” Let’s be the change, HR professionals. Meeting, sharing, looking ahead together. That’s the purpose of the Global #HR Meeting we hold every year. This year, we focused on the importance of looking toward the future through the lens of a growing group — Lavazza Group — that continues to expand globally while strengthening its #WorldwideCoffeeFamily. It was a great opportunity to discuss the daily topics related to managing our people and to look ahead at what the future holds: from artificial intelligence, which is already transforming the way we work, to new methods for engaging employees through training and participation in daily corporate life. Key to these discussions was the input from some of our partners, like LinkedIn and Microsoft, who provided an overview of new developments and future trends in these areas, showing us concrete use cases as well as innovative approaches and solutions. This edition of the GHRM was also a great opportunity to experience the headquarters of one of our most important markets, Germany, in Frankfurt. Alongside our local colleagues, we also visited several points of sale to better understand local sales dynamics and observe how consumers interact with our products and in-store activations—key elements of our business that we must always keep in mind. I want to thank our German colleagues who hosted us during these three days and everyone who contributed, sharing their insights and ideas. This is the added value of being a global Group: having the opportunity to blend different perspectives, experiences, and cultures, to find a synthesis that aligns with our values while also resonating across all the regions in which our Group operates.

This is great to see this visionary mindset at UCD and the support with Vivienne at ICBE. At the heart of every transformation is People, the future of people and work has been a core research theme for the ICBE over the last couple of years, to be ahead of the next emerging paradiagms.
