One of my favorite parts of my job and being a communications leader is being able to bring other people closer the the cool stuff I get to do. I love this piece in The Dallas Business Journal for bringing to life why connections are important for correctional staff and those who are incarcerated. We rely on our devices everyday, so the reality of a world without them isn't real. But tablets - Evotab and others- are a fundamental part of public safety and a lifeline to family and successful reentry for some many as they help bridge the digital divide that defines our criminal justice system. Take a second and get to know the amazing place and people I get to work with everyday. Together, we're changing lives and communities with industry leading innovation. https://lnkd.in/gmrjggF8 #TeamAventiv #Tablets #Bridgethedigitaldivide #CorrectionsTablets

FCC rule-making is not always the most eye-catching news of the day, but for an industry shrouded in darkness for so long, this is a truly a beacon. TLDR: Starting January next year, serious rate caps will be in place for incarcerated persons communication services, and no more commission! For the incarcerated people and their families, this means connecting with each other is becoming much less costly and can happen more often. For correctional facilities prioritizing rehabilitation, this means a more competitive landscape and better services. Thank you, Federal Communications Commission, for the work and the courage. However, structural challenges still exist: Dilapidated network in prisons, jails and juvenile detention centers, lack of accessible and modern devices, correctional staff shortage, contract lock-ins and sometimes, political indifference, still stand firmly in the way to delivering outcomes. Ameelio works to address every single one of the challenges, and we are going one step further than the FCC: For our users, the cost of communication is zero. Despite our mistakes, meaningful connection to loved ones holds the highest hope to true rehabilitation, and Ameelio is proud to power that connection for everybody.
On June 26th, the Federal Communications Commission announced that it will vote to end exorbitant phone and video call rates currently paid by incarcerated persons and their families. Ameelio is delighted by the FCC's intervention into the prison telecommunications industry and applauds the FCC for taking this historic step towards justice and equity. The FCC’s proposed rules will significantly lower existing per-minute rate caps for out-of-state and international audio calls while also applying those rate caps to in-state audio calls. The FCC’s proposed rules will also establish rate caps for video communications. Ameelio commends the FCC for its tireless effort to include stakeholders in developing its proposed rules for reducing calling costs for incarcerated persons. Ameelio urges the FCC to continue to work with stakeholders to reduce calling costs for incarcerated persons and their friends and family to zero. Ameelio is proud to provide free communication services in over five state correctional systems, demonstrating that this model not only improves the well-being of incarcerated individuals but decreases recidivism and improves reentry outcomes. Ameelio looks forward to collaborating with the FCC in its work to reduce calling costs for incarcerated individuals. Founder of On The Inside Re-Entry Academy, Keynote Speaker, formerly incarcerated, and host of The Re-Entry Journey Podcast, Re-Entry Content provider/creator for Correctional institutions
Attention LinkedIn fam! Ever wondered what happens when there's a lack of programs and resources for those on the inside? Let me break it down for you First, let's talk about the consequences within correctional institutions. Without productive activities, things can get pretty wild. Criminal activity skyrockets - gambling, drinking, drugs...you name it! When we don't give inmates something positive to focus on, they'll create their own *productive* ways. And trust me, that's not good news. But it doesn't end there! Think about the individuals who are set to reenter society. If they haven't taken steps to better themselves while incarcerated - whether through educational materials or personal growth initiatives - guess what? They're likely heading right back into trouble. Recidivism becomes an unrelenting cycle. We've witnessed these results firsthand over the past three decades It's time for change! We need more programs We need more resources Let's invest in rehabilitation and provide opportunities for growth within correctional facilities By doing so, we empower individuals with the tools they need to make real change in their lives post-incarceration. #CriminalJusticeReform #SecondChancesMatter #InmateRehabilitation #CreatingOpportunities

An interesting article from Corrections1 which sheds lights on transformative strategies that prioritise human dignity aiming to reshape the the environment of correctional facilities such as enhancing mental health support, implementing comprehensive re-entry programs and investing in staff training to foster a culture of respect and understanding. 'Designed for Dignity', an initiative of the Vera Institute of Justice (Vera), to help corrections departments create and sustain safer and more humane environments for those people who work, visit and are imprisoned in them. #innovation #prisonreform #restorativepractices #dynamicsecurity
